Good girl

She's an absolute legend tbf.

It's worth reading the many tweets praising her, lots from admiring Americans saying "if only we had a leader like her" and "please can we have your PM". I agree, she's certainly one hell of a woman and a credit to her country. No empty promises or weasel words. Delivers on what she says and to be law within 10 days.

So she can just make a law on her own? No need for any legislative action?

No it has to go through their parliament but all are “completely unified” in reforming gun legislation. “Within 10 days of this horrific act of terrorism we will have announced reforms which will, I believe, make our community safer,” Ardern said at a news conference. “These aren’t simple areas of law. So that’s simply what we’ll be taking the time to get right,” she said.

One of the terrorists goals was to restrict rights like gun ownership

"So she can just make a law on her own? No need for any legislative action?"

We did something similar, banning ownership of handguns after the Dunblane massacre, there hasn't been a single such incident using handguns in the 23 years since.

Did we do it off the back of an extremist who was trying to push the government into doing it to try and radicalise people?

He didn't idolise Trump. He saw him as a sort of beacon of hope much like he did Le Pen despite calling her a civic nationalist which is a term of mockery for people who have far right ideals.

If someone on the far right calls you a civic nationalist it isn't an accurate description of your beliefs. They're signalling to people who agree with them that you're in opposition to what they believe and it will conjure up something like this in the people who agree with them

No relevance. I was replying to Maddog, who asked "So she can just make a law on her own? No need for any legislative action?"

The answer was yes, she can, and we did something similar - which we did following Dunblane.

It does have relevance. From governments to big tech and people on the left have all played directly into his hands.

:pmsl: :pmsl: :pmsl:

You sure know how to split hairs.

You claimed that "One of the terrorists goals was to restrict rights like gun ownership". In fact, I can't name a single far-right person who wants to restrict rights like gun ownership - including Trump and all the others he named on his weapons. Quite the opposite in fact. Why would he be different?

I was a victim of credit card fraud a few weeks ago. Could you be a good sport and turn all of your credit cards in to prevent more credit card fraud?

Many thanks in advance. :more beer:

He talks about his reasons why here. As an American i imagine it's difficult for you to comprehend just as it is for many of us Brits/Europeans over the ooc gun culture in US where mass shootings appear to be your way of culling the population.

Switzerland is often quoted by the pro-gun lobbyists but there's a vast difference between the 'psyche' of American and Swiss. Many Swiss do own a gun...because after doing military service they are allowed to keep the gun at home if they wish to (it's not compulsory). BUT they are not allowed to keep ammo. Killings by gun in Switzerland are extremely rare and the last mass shooting was 18 years ago in 2001. So far US has had 62 mass shootings.....in just 79 days.

You are waffling now.

Suddenly the left are involved in his attack ?? So he went to one of the most integrated, peaceful nations on earth to kill 50 innocent Muslims at prayer ? Please...you are effectively blaming the NZ PM for this...

Because there are some lunatics who have decided the system can't be changed in their favour so they want to accelerate the erosion of civil liberties, increase racial tensions, hijack movements to incite hostilities, all in an attempt to create a situation where there's basically a civil war so they have an opportunity to overthrow the government.

I'm not waffling. The left are involved because it was his intention to get them involved.

Christchurch shooting: gun owners begin to hand in their weapons

New Zealanders have begun handing in their firearms to police in the wake of Friday’s mass shooting in Christchurch which resulted in the deaths of at least 50 people.

New Zealand police said that, as of Tuesday night, at least 37 firearms had been handed in to police officers around the country.

The rise in far right populism has certainly been doing a fine job of that haven't they? Don't need look much further than our own country to see that!
