If not President Trump would be charged with obstruction

Postby Cactus Jack » Mon May 06, 2019 8:00 pm

More than 370 former federal prosecutors who worked in Republican and Democratic administrations have signed on to a statement asserting special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s findings would have produced obstruction charges against President Trump — if not for the office he held.

The statement — signed by myriad former career government employees as well as high-profile political appointees — offers a rebuttal to Attorney General William P. Barr’s determination that the evidence Mueller uncovered was “not sufficient” to establish that Trump committed a crime.

Mueller had declined to say one way or the other whether Trump should have been charged, citing a Justice Department legal opinion that sitting presidents cannot be indicted, as well as concerns about the fairness of accusing someone for whom there can be no court proceeding.

“Each of us believes that the conduct of President Trump described in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report would, in the case of any other person not covered by the Office of Legal Counsel policy against indicting a sitting President, result in multiple felony charges for obstruction of justice,” the former federal prosecutors wrote.

“We emphasize that these are not matters of close professional judgment,” they added. “Of course, there are potential defenses or arguments that could be raised in response to an indictment of the nature we describe here. . . . But, to look at these facts and say that a prosecutor could not probably sustain a conviction for obstruction of justice — the standard set out in Principles of Federal Prosecution — runs counter to logic and our experience.”

Now as Dox never attacks the source - the Jewish Conspiracy MSM obviously he will obviously address the fact that 370 federal prosecutors have said there is sufficient evidence to indict Trump were he not a sitting president.

It also creates the interesting question of what happens if and when Trump goes out of office. Not being a sitting President he will be liable for prosecution for all the crimes detailed in the Mueller report and I doubt there will be a Republican House or Senate to protect him

The same article later says

Among the high-profile signers are Bill Weld, a former U.S. attorney and Justice Department official in the Reagan administration who is running against Trump as a Republican; Donald Ayer, a former deputy attorney general in the George H.W. Bush Administration; John S. Martin, a former U.S. attorney and federal judge appointed to his posts by two Republican presidents; Paul Rosenzweig, who served as senior counsel to independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr; and Jeffrey Harris, who worked as the principal assistant to Rudolph W. Giuliani when he was at the Justice Department in the Reagan administration.

He should be impeached really.

The obstruction is bad enough let alone him avoiding a collusion charge only due to incompetence in trying but failing to get into contact with actual Russian hackers.

Except there were 11 investigations costing over a billion dollars that proved that didn't happen and ONE investigation into Trump has produced a profit of around $50 million in back taxes and penalties, multiple indictments and, let's not forget, ten specific, corroborated and - if not covered by a memo against indicting a sitting President - actionable attempts at obstruction of justice.

At least he has proved his business acumen - tax returns show that in 8 years he lost so much (Around $1bn) that the tax man had to have pity on him, and he paid little or no tax.

Just another BS lie he broadcast.

And after a mere 174 days golfing during his presidency as well as a preference for scoffing in front of Fox News, it's a wonder he has done anything at all bar handing tax cuts to the well off.

Oh, wait......he hasn't.

Our tax code is very convoluted. A loss for tax purposes is not always an actual loss.

Savvy real estate investors back in the day could legally show large accounting losses to offset profits.

You dont actually think Trump was not making money do you? Even when he showed losses, it was usually borrowed money.

But I also think that Trump isn't nearly as wealthy as he has let on.

Funny how Obama lived on the golf course, but you never uttered a word about it. Or the fact that his wife was on constant holiday and AFone had to make separate trips for her because she wouldn't wait for her husband to go with her!
Or nothing about obama the man of the people suddenly is a multi millionaire. None of that bothers you?

I'm not sure what is more troubling.

Is it that millions of poorly paid Americans who pay their taxes are perfectly OK with a mega-rich person presenting himself as 'man of the people' by fabricating losses to get out of paying any tax at all - and indeed paying their money to him if the form of write offs and subsidies - or is that these same people actually think the tax code can be used to fabricate a billion dollar loss out of billions in profit?

If it's so easy to make a profit appear like a loss why isn't everyone doing it? Maddog has presented himself as an economist par excellence, why isn't he inventing billion dollar losses to offset whatever taxes he pays?

You have to own millions in real estate, to have those types of writeoffs.

The typical American takes the standard deduction and files a couple of pages.

Trump could have a return in the hundreds, if not thousands of pages.

It's why they keep CPA's on staff.

Our tax code is a disaster, and the wealthy can legally avoid a great deal of their taxes.

It's almost like the folks in government like it that way.
