It's gibberish but in essence true.

The Chinese are the thieving magpies of IP - they will get their hands on a product, be it patented or not, and copy and market it PDQ.

When working for Maxview Ltd a few years ago our mechanical engineer produced a new and innovative design for a fold-flat TV set-top aerial. We sent the first ones to B+Q to go on sale. 2 Weeks later he went to a trade show in China - his aerial (or rather a pretty perfect copy) was on 3 stalls...

It was this one

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Maxview-Indoor ... 4763&psc=1

Jaguar sued the Chinese over copying the Range Rover Evoque which the Chinese marketed as "Landwind" and retailed at just £14k! I read a motoring review of it and externally it's identical, internally also quite impressive with a larger gps screen than the Evoque, but they were not too impressed by it's handling and performance.

All sounds like the kind of free trade Americans like Maddog aspire too.
No rules no regulations so there certainly would be no patents.
Free for all dog eat dog.
But when real free trade free from government interference actually happens they all start crying!

I bet they did !!

But it is notoriously difficult and expensive to do so. JLR could probably afford it, Maxview certainly couldn't.

Whatever the version of a Chinese copycat is called, they have a million of them. It is their speciality, you rarely see any products invented and developed in China.

Danish politician goes viral with video offering Trump 'great deal' on windmills

A Danish politician has aimed to take advantage of Donald Trump's recent focus on Greenland by teaching the US president a thing or two about wind power.
Trump caused consternation in Denmark this week by cancelling a scheduled state visit to the country after Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen dismissed his suggestions the US could purchase Greenland.
Selling Greenland may be out of the question but Ida Auken, a member of the centre-left Social Liberal (Radikale Venstre) party and former environment minister, says in a video posted to Twitter earlier this week that she has a much better deal to offer Trump: wind power.
The video has been liked 7,300 times and retweeted 3,200 times as of Friday afternoon. Auken’s tweets are generally not RT’ed more than around 30 times.
“Mr. President. I want to present you to the greatest deal you’ve ever seen,” Auken begins in the video.
“I thought I might get your attention by standing next to this bird-killing, cancer-causing, blackout-generating, wind energy-producing beast here,” the Danish parliamentarian continues, tongue firmly in cheek, as she stands in front of a wind turbine.

Video tweet is in the article.
It makes Trump look even stupider than usual - and done by a foreign woman who speaks better English than he does. :monkey:

Most of those were hundreds of years ago.

As soon as the Chinese encountered othr cultures, they began copying - and still do.

"Security experts will tell you that mainland Chinese don't fear personal reputation risk when committing fraud. And in a perverse way, Chinese employers value new employees who possess foreign intellectual property even if it is stolen.

Copying and reverse engineering accelerated new product launches, but eroded China's competitiveness. Stealing intellectual property has enormously benefited Chinese companies. But, it has crippled their ability to develop the next version or innovate.

Just look at almost every important technological innovation in hardware, software, and the internet. Without sounding arrogant or imperialistic, they are with few exceptions to made in America. "

Trump has told press at the G7 meeting how great he thinks the UK is, reeling off properties he owns here.

Sadly, The Trump International Golf Links & Hotel is in Doonbeg, Republic of Ireland.

Ooops.

Not particularly relevant to the thread but it's more accurate to say that the Chinese got a bit side tracked by ceramics, which meant they never really developed metallurgy which in turn set them back when it came to electromagnerism.

One of the ways the Chinese copy US intellectual property is via The State of Israel who hand over advanced US missile technologies to China for them to reverse engineer them. China then hands the system information back to Israel who work out a countermeasure based the - so far accurate - guess that whatever the US gives to them will be given the Saudi Arabia about three months later
