Westminster is the gayest parliament in the world

Postby Dinkydoobie » Tue Dec 17, 2019 1:40 pm

"Imran Ahmad-Khan made history when he was elected as MP for Wakefield in Yorkshire on Friday, having beaten the incumbent MP by 3,358 votes. His election marks the first time that the constituency has voted for a Conservative politician since 1931.

The gay Muslim MP is now among 24 Tories who identify as LGBT+, the most out of any party. Labour has 18 and the SNP has 10, one of whom was deselected before the election day.

LGBT+ people now make up 8 per cent of the 650 MPs, a record for the UK. And it means that with a total of 52 out LGBT+ MPs, Westminster has become the gayest parliament in the world."

Now that the conservatives are the gayest party in the UK with an openly gay muslim MP do you think it will help to stem the deluge of accusations that they're bigoted and racist or does the fact Boris Johnson once described gay men as tank-topped bum boys undo all the progress they've made? Personally I suspect they will just be accused of tokenism.

This is fantastic news but only 8% identify as LGBT+ this means that there is still 92% to go including actual party leaders before we can truly say Britain has equal representation for LGBT+ peoples.

Do you go to the Diane Abbott school of maths?

The % of the UK population that identify as LBGT is 2%
So, if 8% of MP's in Parliament are LBGT, they are already over-represented.

Please see your teacher and get your sums corrected.

I rate people, including MPs, on the job they do, not their sexuality.

It is fair to assume that the people who cast their votes for LGBT candidates thought likewise.

Not everyone identifies either.

Sort your sums out.

That particular pastime was the property of skinheads in my youth. There are probably pockets of skinheads still surviving in Workington in a similar fashion to red squirrels.

Hardline Islamic nutjobs simply didn't exist.

Canny old bean, you are wrong but please know that -as per other crimes--they tend to get hushed up.

Johnson will need to moderate his views in future but given his record, i'm not sure he can. As if "tank topped bum boys" wasn't bad enough, he's also compared same sex marriage to bestiality. Good job he's only a PM and not posting on DS otherwise he'd be perma-banned in seconds!

BRILLIANT! :pmsl: :pmsl: :pmsl: You're one of the funniest posters here, Graf, :pmsl: :pmsl:

When he couldn't think of anything to say when asked about his hobby and eventually he came out with something about cardboard box buses, I too remember thinking 'lucky that you're only auditioning for PM, you're not at an interview for a poxy shitty job where someone has just sprung that same question on you.'

Maybe you mean the most ‘openly’ gay parliament. There’s always been the ones who had to stay in the closet.
