That's funny because back when Jamie Oliver was campaigning for a sugar tax they said it was all about free choice and letting people make their own decisions.

The evidence is that BOGOFs on unhealthy foods do make us more unhealthy and a sugar tax that went directly into subsidising fresh fruit and vegetables would have a positive effect on the nation's health.

It's also absolutely unarguable that obesity is a factor in what makes Covid19 deadly and losing weight and giving up smoking ahead of a possible second wave would do a lot of people a lot of good.

The strangest thing is watching Tory ministers telling us we are too fat while offering 50% off eating-out meals...

A bit more jogging and a bit less knobbing might have helped.

The only time Boris Johnson resembles a 'slim' guy is when he knocks the drink on the head for a bit, he's doing that now which is why he's losing weight... He also had full access to Buck Palace private gardens

The 9pm watershed :pmsl: :pmsl: seriously, the kids are all abed by then and the older ones make their own minds up about what they will or wont want to buy and eat.
I'm glad i can cook and bake, he can shove his fit bits up his pipe... sideyways. :gigglesnshit:

Why is that strange?
Do you think that meals in restaurants are unhealthier than the trolley loads of shit pies, pizzas chips etc that people buy in supermarkets?

At the price point of meals out they're talking about they're pretty much exactly the same as the shit pies, pizzas and chips.

In fact some of the pies in supermarkets might be a bit healthier. I doubt the pie and chips with peas you make at home weighs in at over 1500 calories, around 60% of the recommended daily intake for the average person and that forgets the 300 to 600 calories you get from the wine or beer you have with it in 'Spoons.

Restaurants are rarely healthy eating options, especially for those who the Johnson "Blame Covid-19 deaths on the Obese" strategy is aimed at.

Those people have a tendency (not all, but many) to eat in the McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut establishments. High fat, high calorie fast food.

The next level up is Chinese, Indian, the takeaways of this world. The offer is for sit-down, some have that facility but the food is still calorie laden.

Finally we have restaurants - more expensive (I suspect their prices will rise), but the food these days has a tendency to be cheaper cuts covered by high calorie sauces. Also the issue of puddings raises its ugly head...

Go to a supermarket, buy lean meat, fresh veg, use herbs and spices for taste, not butter or cream, and try to avoid frying. It's far easier to eat healthier by cooking your own meals and that starts at the supermarket - not at KFC.

If you want people to eat healthily, subsidise healthy food, not a dubious meal on a Monday night for those who can afford it.

They're getting us ready for food shortages in the New Year, why do you think that they delay stuff like lockdowns, masks and testing? Their base is hopelessly stupid and easily led, it has to broken to them gently if it's going to be inconvenient. Think like Dom

I'm not sure many humans are capable of thinking like Dom. The cabinet follow his orders, thinking is discouraged.

The 50% offer doesn't apply to take-away places
It's only for sit-down meals
And alcohol is excluded
And it's only Monday Tuesday Wednesday
And it's only for August.

No it doesn't hence Eat Out - not Take Out
Alcohol may be excluded as a separate item but when it's 'baked in' it isn't excluded - the 'burger and beer' deals will still give a burger and beer and you'll get 50% off.
Yes it's only for three days in a week for the month of August - the usually quiet days to encourage people not to all go to the sort of pub where this deal will be used just on the weekend.

Ahh the old reading problem - again.

And many establishments, especially pubs, already have similar food offers on those quiet days of the week.

Sigh ..............

You obviously don't know this - but all food has some calories
And, Chinese food, like food of all nations, has some dishes that have more calories than others
For example, a bowl of steamed rice only has 136 calories
But a bowl of fried rice with prawns etc has 3 times that amount.
And a bowl of Thai coconut chicken curry contains 631 calories

And, the government's plan is for restaurants to display the calorie count of each dish on their menus.
See? I'm always here to help.
