The sad truth is that nobody is perfect and no system is perfect.

We try our best to get the least imperfect system we can and because we suck so much we can't even manage that for enough of the time.

What's left is a choice between dogmatism and owning mistakes and moving on.

Conservatism, in my experience opts for former where progressive plumps for the latter.

The choice is more or less of an imperfect system having influence on your life, regardless of that system coming from a conservative or progressive position.

The left boot and the right boot both feel like shit on your throat.
