Texas Nurses Overwhelmed By Staffing Shortages

Texas Nurses Overwhelmed By Staffing Shortages

Postby Cactus Jack » Fri Jul 30, 2021 6:09 am

Nurses facing their third wave of COVID-19 patients are saying they can’t take it anymore.

“They’re either leaving the profession altogether or they’re leaving the bedside and looking for other avenues to practice,” Bumpus said. “And that is very detrimental to our healthcare infrastructure here in the state of Texas and quite frankly, across the United States.”

It sounds like it's not just staff shortages which is the problem, it's the nurses getting burnout from the relentless stream of Covid patients, despite the vaccine being available. I can't blame them for leaving really - if people would just get the vaccine it would help a lot.

Overtime.

I know a guy who has made obscene amounts of money during covid as a traveling nurse.

Texas has a perpetual shortage of nurses because we keep growing like crazy.

We have a lot of pressure on a lot of systems because of our explosive growth.

But its a good problem..

The article is written from the perspective of a nurses organization.

Their default position based on their objective is to say we need more nurses. Always..

But with an aging population, that lives longer thanks to better medicine, the health industry is a pretty high demand area. I haven't seen any big incentives lately, but I've seen them in the past.

It's not so much right or wring, but of understanding bias.

Ever hear a police union spokesperson say we need fewer cops and less police funding?

Nurse advocacy groups operate the same way.

The are up in the middle of a record setting heatwave for a virus that really doesn't like heat.

We are not setting records for heat here. Temps are typical for Summer and our infection rate is significantly lower than what it has been in the past.
