Marriage is a good thing when children are involved..I think it makes a relationship more stable... just living together makes it too easy to walk out after a silly argument.

i disagree
if there flimsy enuff to abandon a child coz of an argument
your better of without them in the long run
and also if the relationship is dead its easier to split and go seperate ways
i think kids are far better of with a single parent peaceful household
than a 2 parent battleground

But sometimes arguments are just so silly...they can often be worked out...If you just live together it's easy to walk out....if you're married you think twice about it,you will most likely try harder to work it out...and often it can be worked out....perhaps I'm wrong...that's just my take on it...I was in both situations...I was married and I also lived with someone a couple of times...My marriage lasted the longest...

Exactly Frosty. :Hiya: :smilin:

- kids/property are a bigger commitment than a piece of paper, when it comes down to it.

It comes down to the individual partner/pairing Frosty, and I do still believe in marriage, just not that warring parents should stay together "for the sake of the children".

It can be difficult sometimes though to know when to stop trying....

Some people still believe in marriage :snooty:

Personally I think if you are going to have kids its nice to all have the same surname, unless one of you changes it by deed-poll or double-barrel the kids names :twirl:

I think marriage is outdated here and mores the pity. Instead we have a fragmented society where the norm is fathers often dont bring up the kids they have sired and mothers live with various partners...which leaves lots of step or half brothers and sisters living together or worse separated from each other.
I would never hark back to the days when women stayed with a husband because she had no other choice, but I do think people should pick a long term partner wisely and then strive to stay together and make the relationship work after they have had children.
