Last night's game against Red Star Belgrade was the most testing so far, as this famous old club - European Cup winners in 1991 - played their hearts out, against what was essentially a second string Arsenal eleven and a bench of academy hopefuls.

The first half was cautious with both sides keeping possession and only attacking on the break, that did however bring some excellent chances and saves from both keepers. Second half was more up tempo but as the gunners piled on the pressure Red Star began to hog their home third making it difficult for the gunners to break through the defence. As the game wore on it appeared that the Serbians were happy to settle for a point.

Arsenal needed some magic, the game changers though appeared to have all been left at home. Not so, after a night of mixed play, Jack Wilshere steps up and shows why people said of him, "the best British prospect since Paul Gasgoine." Wilshere takes on a beats three Red Star defenders, then finds the space to flick the ball over the top of two more to Theo Walcott who lightly heads on to Olivier Giroud, the Frenchman stooping to place a perfectly weighted overhead kick into the back of the net.

We meet them again at the Emirates next game, it will be a very different match then.

Hey TJ, what's this I hear, Ozil wants to go to Man United??? :kinell:

Yeah bin rumoured for weeks now, he only wants to go to United because they are the only ones interested in him. He's a luxury that only the richest clubs can afford, good player but only when he feels like it, which isn't all that often.

A fit Jack Wilshere and Ozil wouldn't get a look in.

Like I said, they are the only ones interested in him. He had all summer to entice bidders, we had none, not even United at that time.

More news on Scotland's shame.

Celtic could be in trouble with UEFA AGAIN after their fans were caught singing Pro-IRA chants outside Bayern Munich's stadium.

They were also belting them out at Manchester Airport, but i believe that's a matter for Manchester police.

https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/1719750/celtic-ira-song-manchester-airport-bayern-munich-video/

https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/scottish-news/1721766/celtic-fan-ira-song-live-tv-bayern-munich/

The IRA bombed Manchester more than twenty years ago and injured more than 200 people.

Some people think Manchester was chosen over London, because Scotland were playing England at Wembley that day and a attack on the Scots, might have cost the IRA a lot of support.

My best guess is that both Ozil and Sanchez will be gone in the January window, even though it seems to make little sense for either the player or the buying club.

Having said that, a buying club if really interested wouldn't want the player to go out to 'tender' for all and sundry.

Ozil isn't a problem, we have Wilshere and Cazorla coming back, both are better than Ozil when fit and flying, it's Sanchez that will hurt. Again though, we've proved Arsenal isn't based around one player, so his loss isn't going to break us.

Just gutted that the first closed season Sanchez has ever had without playing in one international tournament or another, will benefit someone else rather than us.

Much more what?

Seriously Dean, there's banter and there's taking the piss.

Much more of a talent, more of an influence, more of a leader. We’ll never know what could have been sadly, he’s just too brittle...

It's not Martin Luther King, we're talking about.

Ok, in a footballing context, let’s say he has underachieved on his young potential...

Arsenal were clear they would rather see him leave for free next year than sell for a cutdown price this season.

Clubs were obviously willing to wait rather than give Arsenal the money to reinvest.

Well maybe he should change his lifestyle.

Lots of players get injured and they spent their time in the gym and watching what they eat, not boozing and smoking big cigars.

Ian Durrant had the potential to be a world class player, but because of the horrendous injury he suffered, he was never allowed to fulfill it.

It was a great loss to Rangers and Scotland and it's been voted the worst tackle of all time by many people.

That tackle has led to thirty years of sheer hatred between Rangers and Aberdeen fans.

A round up of the weekend's Premier league games raises a few eyebrows as we approach a quarter of the season gone. Starting Friday night at West Ham where visitors Brighton piled more pressure on an already overwhelmed manager Slavan Bilic and his under performing side by beating the Irons 0-3.

Saturday proved even better for the newly promoted sides as Huddersfield showed Manchester United that they can mix it in the PL by beating them 2-1. Pundits called it a 'shock result' but was it? I don't think so. Up until now United have only played bottom half of the table clubs with the exception of Liverpool, who are hardly flying themselves and that ended in a goaless draw.

Man City took a five point lead at the top after beating Burnley at home 3-0, though it took what is fast becoming the obligatory penalty award for City to break down Sean Dyche's men and start the ball rolling.

Chelsea made hard work of beating Watford at Stamford Bridge as the visitors went 1-2 ahead 5 minutes into the second half. With 20 minutes left Chelsea levelled the score, late goals at 87 and 95 minutes made Chelsea's victory look better on paper than it was in reality.

The remainder of Saturday's games saw few surprises as Newcastle beat a dogged Crystal Palace 1-0 with an 86th minute winner and Leicester taking all three points under caretaker manager Michael Appleton at Swansea, a fortunate own goal giving them the opener in their 1-2 victory.

Bournemouth recorded a rare away victory at Stoke beating them 1-2 and a late goal saw Southampton win 1-0 against visitors WBA which concluded Saturday's games.

The real football action at the weekend was the Scottish League Cup and it saw Rangers take on fourteen men, when they played Motherwell at Hampden.

The main talking point of the game is how the English bastard Ryan Bowman, stayed on the pitched after he assaulted Fabio Cradoso of Rangers.

The fucking animal was already on a yellow card, but Motherwell's 12th man referee Steven McLean, didn't bother sending him off.

Now a lot of Rangers players have been held too account over things caught on camera, so if the SFA don't throw the book at him, we all know why.
