I’d take the money. You could always shove a lump of coal up your bum and wait a couple of weeks for a new one.

I would sell it privately, avoiding taxes.

Is the authenticity of the diamond guaranteed or is there a risk that if it goes to auction it will be exposed as a lower grade or an outright fake?

If authenticity is guaranteed I would go to auction.
