Elon Musk takes off.

A right load of bollocks...

Elon Musk takes off.

Wow!
Be interesting to see the two halves landing back on earth.
He's done it for only 90 million quid!
Costs NASA billions.

A nice twist is he has put his old Tesla car in it and it has a dummy in a space suit at the wheel listening to David Bowie.
The car will be left to orbit the sun.

Landing those rockets back on earth (rafts at sea) is incredible.

The liftoff saw the spacecraft blasted into space above the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.

The rocket’s two side boosters, which detached from the main rocket miles above the earth, successfully returned to landing pads close to their takeoff point.

The rocket’s core was due to land on a drone ship in the Atlantic, though as the stream ended the core had still not touched down.

He's got his fingers in many pies!! :yikes: But he's an altruistic sort, not an egomaniac.
I'm following it. Godspeed, Mr Musk.

As impressive as it is, like any venture outside our atmosphere is, I don't see what makes this so special?

Surely the laws of physics say the more engines and fuel you use to create thust and escape Earth's gravity, the heavier the payload you can carry. :dunno:

As far as the cost goes, he may have done it cheaper but thats because he's in overall control and it's his money. NASA is just like any other government sponsored organisation, it's easy to spend other peoples money.

It's all about payload.
The marvel is he got 27 rocket engines to all work in harmony and then gets them back.
The car adds a fun humorous twist to space exploration.

Doesn't that top picture look amazing.
Very science fictiony or maybe even Thunderbirds.
I can only think gyroscopes and a lot of computer activity connected to them.
Musk may well turn out to be the saviour of heavy rocket manufacturing in America meaning they won't have to buy them off the Russians anymore.
