Exactly - it's because the human brain is so good at adapting to new stimuli.

For example, when you first put on your boxers/knickers in the morning, you feel the fabric against your skin. But soon the sensation disappears it's your sensory neurons adapting to the feeling and because that feeling is unchanging and non-threatening then your neurons start to ignore the stimulus as non-essential information.

If you could not adapt/ignore all the information cascading into your brain then functioning would be impossible. :cuppaT:
