Though I wasn't overly impressed with the film as a whole, this scene captured it's message perfectly, the complete and utter differences in culture between the west and the Japanese at that time.

Wickedly cruel in the eyes of the west, to the Japanese their actions were completely normal, neither side being able to comprehend the minds of the other.

Too true they do know. I remember one of my cousins being petrified of the Jaws music she certainly couldn't watch the films. The them tune was enough.

Seen it so many times I know the entire film word for word.

That line was ad-libbed by Roy and also Robert Shaw in addition to being an Oscar-nominated actor, was an award-winning writer of novels, plays and screenplays - he rewrote the monologue to make it into something unforgettable.

Rutger wrote Tears in Rain, and Di Niro and Nicholson ad-libbed these as well.

This thread will run and run.

Very underrated film with a superb cast - a crime noir thriller and a very poignant contemplation of our own mortality.

Right off to do other stuff. :cuppaT:

Another good thread

So many movie scenes to choose from, don’t know where to start, but as I watched Mr & Mrs Smith last night this scene is fresh in my mind. Brad Pitt has good comedy timing, surprisingly, “we need to talk”.

One of the best entrances of a character to a movie ever. Omar Sheriff in Lawrence of Arabia. I think it won awards at the time but with cinema moving on with graphics and special effects, kids today probably won’t see the big deal. The build up in tension is still there though if you watch the film.

If Sleeping Dogs was ever made into a movie, Charlie Chaplin would be the best director ...
