The CLIPBOX - like the jukebox only FILM CLIPS!

A right load of bollocks...

When you consider that this film was made in 1968 without the benefits of CGi it is a true masterpiece. A vision of Arthur C Clarke brought to life by Stanley Kubrik, 2001: A Space Odessey was the SciFi film all others to come would be measured by. In hindsight, it is now a measure of how little we have progressed.

This scene is the culmination of a cat & mouse game between Dave, the mission captain and the HAL 9000, a sentient and now turned rogue, Ship's AI. Brilliant, if lengthy film.

The little known cult classic, 'Dark Star' was John Carpenter's early venture into SciFi. If as I did, you liked Dr Strangelove of ten years earlier, then you had to love this. With nothing like the budget or star studded cast of latter, it is still full of similar thoughtful insights and much black humour though having far more of a 'home made' look about it.

I don't think I'll be giving much away by posting both films culminating scenes. Although the films were made about ten years apart, they both carried the ever present feeling, prevalent in both decades, of mankind's apparent incessant need to destroy everything, even itself.

Now a cliche but this is still a touching scene about loyalty from Spartacus.

COMMANDO: Shirtless Fighting

(Includes the infamous toolshed scene uncut as far as I can tell.)

The best version of this film on DVD is the R1 Director's Cut.

One of the very few instances of a sequel being as good if not better than it's predecessor.

If you are a fan of these films, the R1 Alien Quadrilogy and Alien Legacy (20th Anniversary Edition) DVD box sets are the ones to go for.

Kubrick was both a freak - and a genius.

Two clips which made this film memorable for me. It had mixed reviews at the time, mostly because of an anti Kevin Costner bent from film critics but I enjoyed it the first time I saw it and since. Yeah it's probably not historically accurate as far as personalities go but as entertainment, a very good film.
