First Cousin Marriages - Genetic Defects, Fact or Fiction???

Postby Lucian Deville » Wed Mar 28, 2018 8:04 am

Hi

Last year a person at work who was born in Pakistan was going to get married. The congrats quickly turned to talk about how, when and where
this person met the OH. Quickly transpired it was a 'arranged' marriage (not to be confused with a forced marriage) and the vast majoirty of
people sniggered, joked behid the persons back and talked about it being "unlawful." Anyways, the marriage is this year and we recd an invite on Satuday
(most likely wont go as Lucian does not like planned gaterhings and only attneds these if it is immediate family) and this made us look into
this subjecy

Fact, it is not illeagel in the vast majority of cuntries to marry first cousin, inc the usa 26 states allow it we think but we could be wrong
and stand to be corrected.

Personally, Lucian and their family would never do that as our back, though not a religous one or narrow minded one but one of
adapting to the place, cuntry we live in and also not forgetting our routes, we see our cousins as brothers/sisters esepcially first , second, third cousins, fact

Interesting article from the local Birmingham media.

Would you marry your first cousin?

Henry VIII married his first cousin.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were first cousins.

Royalty is all about who are considered suitable partners first and for other matters of state. That of course is due to change as the young Royals choose partners outside the normal parameters, which strengthens the bloodline.

Where cousins are concerned in this day and age I think the chances of genetic defects depends largely on how many times previously within the family there have been similar instances.

Basically, if they are the first to marry and have children within the extended family, then the chances are very slight.

lucian is trying to imply that first cousin marriage is a pakistani phenomenon but it has been common in the uk for centuries among the british population.

Hi

Stop misquoting the facts!!!!!

Quote from the link:

He claims: "Neither the scientific nor social assumptions behind such legislation stand up to close scrutiny. Such legislation reflects outmoded prejudices about immigrants and the rural poor and relies on over-simplified views of heredity. There is no scientific grounding for it."

Peter Corry of St Luke's Hospital in Bradford estimates that among people of Pakistani descent in the city, 55 per cent of whom marry first cousins, the risk of recessive genetic disorders is between 10 and 15 times higher than in the general population.

Lucian is also aware that laws, preceptions and culture changes over the years.
Lucian is aware that hundreds of years ago the well to do married cousins and also particiapted in 'arranged marriages - on the whole this is not longer the case, fact!

Asides that friend, an example of changes to way people live, EG being gay in England was against the law a few decades ago and law was changed. A few years ago gay marriahe was allowed. You look acrosss the world and not too far from home ie EU, age of consent varies, fact!!

Therefore, if you have an agenda against us, start your own thread and log in you twat.

Yes, for the record Lucian and family would never marry a cousing - and dont beleive us but read the link to see in which culture this is most prevelant. It's not against the law and we dont have a problem with that but our family are not into marrying cousins and the gentics thing needs to invested further, fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you'll find being betrothed and actually getting married and consumating it, are two very different things.

In fact, in those days the pair might only meet each other on the day of the wedding and have no further contact ever. Can't remember which wife it was but Henry VIII had a rare pang of conscience over his wife that he neglected the minute after he said I do, that he gave her a great deal of dosh after they divorced by way of apology.

Guest thinks it’s ok because it’s ethnic minority muslims doing it. Which is actually quite racist of him when you think of it, as if he’s saying ‘well, those Pakistanis know no better so it would be awfully unfair to penalise them for it’.

Blame my history teacher at school then nobhead, cos he never covered a ‘tradition of first cousin marriage’ in Britain. Stop deflecting from what your co religionists are doing HERE AND NOW with what Kuffars may or may not have done centuries ago.

Hi

Is anyone disputing the facts re figures in Bradford?

We have nothing against it but would never marry a first cousin as that's like marrying a brother/sister to us and we are
also concerned re gentics.

We are full time supporters of arrnaged marriages, not to be confused with forced marriage, fact!!

Edcation is the way forward

I think this debate about marrying relatives and who does/ did what is easily sorted.

We as westerners have moved with the times and marrying relatives has been taboo for many years. Unfortunately, much of the rest of the world still thinks it lives in the middle ages.
