Do You Have The Capacity To Forgive Anything?

I mean do you have a level you won't go above? What sort of examples can you give where you have or just could not forgive someone? I don't mean strangers, I mean people you've know well, family or friends.

I ask because I was talking to someone today and he hated his ex wife, she died years after their divorce and he said 'good fucking job'

I have been in similar circumstances, my ex wife put me through the fucking wringer, not just at the time of the divorce but for years and years after, I got the works, court cases, lies, custody hearings, not to mention the absolute fortunes it cost me over the years to rid myself of her, which I never really did. I hated her for much of those years and I'll admit I wished her dead on many occasions.

Many years later though, when she was diagnosed with throat cancer right up until her last day, I mellowed toward her and she to me. Admittedly much of my mellowing was for my girls sake but surprisingly a lot came from inside me, I really didn't think I had it in me to forgive her.

I helped her as much I could in her last year, not just out of sympathy if it was ever that but the realisation that all the bad blood between us and I can't explain just how bad it was at some stages, meant absolutely nothing when it comes to someone ceasing to exist, no matter how much you think you hate someone.

I would like to think I did but I am not so sure. I think I would forgive my wee sister for anything and my husband and kids. But if my husband was unfaithful to me I don’t think I could forgive him for that.

Also if they turned out to be murderers or anything, I would struggle to forgive that.

It’s good that you managed to find some kind of peace with your ex towards the end TJ, It seems like it meant a lot to you .

There’s only a couple of things I struggle with.

I struggle to forgive the doctors involved in my brothers care. But I think I’m time the anger I feel over that will fade.
I won’t forgive my cousin for his sympathy whoring. I did, and then he did the same fucking thing with nanna, so he’s out of chances and out of my life.


Other than that I’m too laid back to hold a grudge. I don’t have the fucking energy.

No one in my RL has ever done anything (so far) that I could never forgive.

There's a saying I can relate to. Wtte: I can forgive what you did, and I can forgive what you said. But I can never forget how you made me feel.

Perhaps that might apply, in view of TJ's OP?
