Pure pantomime. Literally a French Farce. But on the plus side it mercifully reduced the 3-goal margin & brought Croatia back into the game. Otherwise it would have been a very boring onesided game, unworthy of a WC final on the world's biggest stage.

Croatia were skilled and tenacious and had more possession and presence in the 1st half. But in the 2nd half, France asserted themselves and played incredibly well as a team and as individuals. A 2 goal margin does not lie, my friend. If not for that panto error it could have stayed a 3 goal margin and that would've given the french confidence to go all out and make it even bigger. Be a good sport & give the devil his due. Sulking is for kids.

France is the poorest and least supported of the the top 5 leagues in Europe yet once again they come up with the goods when it matters, what does that say about English football and the Premier league?

Some might remember many decades ago now when English football was ridiculed and frowned upon for it's direct 'hoof the long ball up the pitch and see what happens' approach whilst the rest of Europe played fancy, technical possession stuff out from the back.

Our approach made us kings of Europe for a decade or more yet someone decided we should play like them, brought in foreign managers and players to 'teach' us and thats when our demise began.

It's no surprise though that when all these foreign teams come up against an opponent their fancy football can't get past, they resort to the trusted English way of the long ball.

I think a long ball up the pitch is a good way to play. At least it gets the ball in the right area. Messing about at the other end doesn't do anything useful.

Some people kept calling for VAR to be invented so they got their wish & it turned out to be a double-edged sword which introduced even more confusion imo. Didn't simplify anything - the ultimate decision still rests with the ref.

I used specific examples of foreign born sportsmen that have played for England without any hint of objection, having been very involved in watching cricket at that time I can't recall one example of an objection to THOSE cricketers being raised in any meaningful way

There were objections to ALL of those cricketers, not least because they were taking the places of English boys brought up through the county system. They were not universally welcomed as you seem to think they were, just because they were white. I had a letter read out on TMS which was discussed by Christopher Martin-Jenkins and David Lloyd, and they both expressed concerns about the number of non-Englishmen in the England team and the effect it was having on county cricket

Anyone who knows anything about cricket would have heard of D'Oliveira, trying to dismiss him because he was 'before your time' doesn't wash. Are you only aware of people born after you?
