Celebration Days - Lets go the Whole Hog

Postby Trapper John » Mon Jun 18, 2018 5:15 am

In keeping with the current national obsession with creating celebration or commemorative days for pretty much anything, I'd like to add my suggestion for such a day.

The latest of these comes with the news that we shall be having a 'Windrush Day' where the government have decided to hand over some of our hard earned taxes to people so they can “recognise and honour the enormous contribution” those 500 west indian immigrants and those who followed have made to Britain.

According to the communities minister, Lord Bourne “It will keep their legacy alive for future generations, ensuring that we all celebrate the diversity of Britain’s history” and to the Windrush Foundation’s director, Arthur Torrington, it will "Cement in the national consciousness the important contribution of those who travelled from the Caribbean to Britain 70 years ago to build a better life and participate in making Britain a stronger nation.”

Fair enough I suppose and the grants are minimal in the great scheme of things but in the interests of fairness I think we should have a day where we can all sit down and reflect on just what the other implications were/ are of having vast numbers of immigrants rock up on our shores and their contribution to this country.

For a topical example, I'd like to celebrate the fact these two men, William Deo and Gavin Okwu-Brewis, are wanted in connection with a 'noxious substance' attack that left a man critically ill at the weekend. Image

I'd like to celebrate the fact that we have reached 46 fatal and 1251 non fatal stabbings in London up to the end of April and that just yesterday another 15 year old boy was stabbed and is critical in hospital, with most of these crimes being committed by immigrants or the offspring of immigrants.

Yes, I think we need a day where we can weigh up the 'Pros and Cons' of immigration, to reflect on whether having a few hundred buses and trains running back in the 1950's and 1960's was worth the pain, misery and loss caused to millions ever since.

the offspring of immigrants?

so British citizens then

that being the case your post appears to be saying that pretty shit crimes are carried out daily by some people who were born here and some that weren't - hardly observation of the century is it

No, I'm saying that had it not been for the first wave of mass immigration which the establishment saw as a way of protecting their status and forcing people to accept it, which they still do now, millions of people who have been adversely affected by those who wouldn't have been here - would have been spared the pain, misery and loss they suffered.

A simple concept to grasp I would have thought.

In case anyone is in any doubt, 'Cause and Effect' is the theme of this thread, the Butterfly effect if you like.

Simply put, where a seemingly small and inconsequential change to the status quo has a massive effect later on down the line.

There's no hard and fast rule, but I believe it should take several generations of 'bedding in' before we stop referring to a person's roots. I tend to call the offspring of immigrants, first, second, third generation immigrants etc rather than 'British' straight off the bat.

A good compromise, and it is creeping more into media reports now, is something like 'British citizen of Moroccan (or wherever) descent' -it paints a far more accurate picture. I'm not sure exactly when the 'of Moroccan descent' label should be dropped, but it should hang around for a good while. Otherwise reporting becomes too PC and sanitised, and is misleading. For example, after terror attacks on mainland Europe you'd get the BBC saying the perps were something like 'two Frenchman and a Belgian' - it's only when you see their pics that the full story is known.

There was a savage rape in Sweden a few years ago, where a young girl was left for dead. The Swedish media is as bad as the BBC, and the rape was reported as being carried out by 'two Swedes, a Norwegian, and a Finn'. It was in fact four Somali immigrants who had recently been given citizenship of those respective countries. They weren't even born in Scandinavia.

If we're being told to 'celebrate diversity' like with this Windrush nonsense, and recognise people's roots because something good allegedly happened, then it must cut both ways, and we must recognise people's roots when they get up to bad shit as well.

Yes, good news, isn't it?

A day celebrating the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants is to be held annually, the government has announced.

It will be supported by a grant of up to £500,000, available to charities and communities wanting to hold commemorative and educational events.

Nice - but our Caribbean brothers and sisters will not be so gullible as the Sunderland Massive when it comes to electoral bribes.

Some Etriteans attacked a cycling event of all things in Manchester yesterday.

If people aren't going to behave in a civilised manner they shouldn't be let into the country IMO, or should be restricted to living in London, then build a wall round it.

It was an Eritrean cycling event. Some came along to demo against the Eritrean Government. Are you against dissent and demos etc?

Why not have a day to celebrate?

The Windrush generation wouldn't have made a column on page 6 until the Tories tried to kick them out. Having failed miserably and drawn more attention to their dangerous ideologies, there should be a celebration that they failed and were exposed. :twirl:

Having said that., I do think the putting flowers out every time something happens has gone too far. people who know nothing about the person, the event or connected in any way feel they have to travel to the location and raid the local florist, then add them to the already over the top mountain of flowers. I blame Diana for that, well not her but her death.

Personal Public Image: keeping florists in business since 1997.
