Not sure if this is the right thread but I'm thinking of changing my light bulbs for some low energy ones.
Any advice would be appreciated.

LED all the way. Forget energy saving ones, crap. LED cost very little to run., better than low energy and actually work

So how do I go about doing that, do I need any special knowledge or equipment?

No, you just plug them in like normal light bulbs, they've been around for ages and you probably use them on a daily basis without realising it. You save money on your electric bill because they're cheaper to run.

Just note they won't last as long as advertised in an enclosed or semi-enclosed fitting.

And sometimes don't work as spots in the kitchen because they need a special LED driver instead of a transformer, although try different bulbs first, I had some that didn't work, bought another brand and they did.

Just get the one you want with the same fitting and away you go. Check the wattage as there are different ones but they give the equivalent in old bulb terms. ie Wattage: 9W / Equivalent Wattage: 60W

Low energy ones take too long to warm up and I don't like the light they produce much either.

LEDs ones are good though particularly since they don't give out much heat, halogen reading light in this weather we had recently is like having a little heat lamp on you which is not good, maybe OK in winter though.

And as Stooo said, save on electricity costs.

I counted 66 active members :yikes: it doesn't include members that sporadically log in

A passable piece, but it missed the mark somehow. IMO.

4 more to get into personal attacks over their political views.

5 admins to ban the light bulb posters who took it all too seriously.

1 late arrival to comment on the original post 6 months later and start it all over again.

Everyone seems to like your post and I hate to be the one party pooper (there's always one ain't there  )

But it's simply too long.

Would've been a great piece otherwise.
