Talking about stressed animals because of fireworks. I don't like dogs for example. I see them every day, unlike firework and they stress me.

So, here's the deal. If one wants to ban fireworks, I want to ban dogs, unless they are assistance dogs.

The point I'm making is that many of us have to listen to dogs barking all year around and yes most of the shit I see outside is from dogs. I and many people put up with dogs, so people should put up with fireworks. It's called tolerance. Fireworks are part of UK and other countries cultures and I don't see why that should be taken away because some pets get stressed.

It's not just SOME dogs and cats that shiver with fear, it's hundreds of thousands what about wild birds (who by the time fireworks start are trying to go to sleep) and various other wild life?

There's serious talk in NZ about making the sale of fireworks, crackers etc to the general public illegal and only allow council organised displays.

ETA......and lets not forget all the firers/ damages and injuries they cause every year.

Can I ban loud noises which wake me up in the night due to various factors? And should we ban thunderstorms and lightning? Birds and other wildlife cope with those I believe.

Wild life is usually in tune with nature, they do recognise when weather goes bad. Fireworks/crackers go off unpredictably, they also go off days before and days after the event.

Farmers do what they have to do to protect their crops, it's their livelihood, so it's a necessary evil but like you said, birds get used to it because it happens regularly.

Fireworks are not necessary. Wildlife living near rails and airports are used to it because the noise is there on a daily basis. Fireworks come along once or maybe twice a year, wild life has no chance of getting used to it.

BIB. Fireworks around here go off regularly at various times during the year, due to multiple religious or cultural events, e.g. Chinese New Year, Diwali to name a couple, not just in or around November the 5th. In other parts of the UK you have fireworks going off at special events, music concerts etc. Could be any time of the year.

I had a sobering experience this year, we pushed the boat out and spent £35.
Planted them to the right level inside a huge stone garden pot.
One of the big freebie multi-shotters started veering off the vertical.
60 degrees then 45, the last one fired horizontally and exploded in the pot.
We were all back well over the required distance but it could have been worse.
Pissed up family laughed it off, kids were a bit scared. I went pale.
