VR6storm wrote:Not that Sainsbury's bollocks...... i'm talking Aldi here. Oh yeah baby!! Beautiful Tagliatelli in a huge bag - 68p. And it's bloody good stuff. Cambalala Chenin Blanc / Pinotage / Sauvignon Blanc, £3.89/bottle. And this is killer vino collapso!!

Fab ice creams up there with your B and J's and Hagens...... £1.99 for a 500ml tub. This is seriously good stuff. The Chunky Monkey is TDF!! They have 4 all-butter Croissants for 69p which Tesco charge £2.00 for exactly the same thing - even the packaging is virtualy identical. You certainly can't tell the difference with the Croissants.

Cheap but really good Parmesan Cheese - £2.59 for a huge block. And again, it's just as good as Tesco Finest which will set you back well over £3.00 for quite a bit less in actual weight......

Anyone else found some good buys in the 'discounted / European' supermarkets (Lidl / Aldi)?

i know i have......

Germans are clever with food sales

Not a big fan of Panettone as it has peel in it. I do like Pandoro though, but the supermarkets rarely seem to sell this for some reason.

Jon wrote:I hate to think what corners they cut to be able to sell a huge bag of tagliatelle for 68p. It's like Tesco value ham (now rebranded as Eastmans) - a 400 gram pack for £1.50. I don't even want to know what went into that ham :ooer:

Aldi sources from local farmers so don't you be worrying, it's less likely to be full of the muck you get in Tesco or Sainsburys.
People are delightfully surprised how good Aldi & Lidl are when they visit...............only thing they complain about is coming home with an electric screwdriver when all they went for was milk!
