It bloody wasn't, and I'll fight you for that as well

I got what chase was aiming for - totally. The whole idea that Tony could be killed at any time by any one. I got that, and I understand it.

But to end one of the greatest tv series ever made by making me think my recording equipment had cut out is just unforgivable.

I'm very much in the minority I know, but I liked the ending. A couple of episodes before, Tony talked about the business they were in and wether you heard the bullet that shot you, etc

He was going to be killed one way or another and i thought it would have been naff to end with his head in his soup, I thought it was kind of fitting.

I appreciate where you're coming from.

Personally, I'd have probably done it a bit differently to get the same result. I'd have probably fixed the camera on one person outside the diner - someone sitting on a bench waiting for a bus maybe. Just have the camera focused on them as you see the the family enter the diner in the background - even have Meadow going in late as well after the car parking bit.

Then i'd have the gunshot happen and the person on the bench suddenly looks up and behind him towards the diner and then i'd have probably cut to black.

Hmmm, yep I get that, and I know the ending really rankled with huge fans of the show.

For me it was all the more shocking as you were behind Tony's eyes, you were Tony. And I loved the way you saw the guy who obviously shot him in the background, going into the loo, it was reminiscent of the scene in the Godfather where Michael did the same thing.

When it went to black I thought it was more dramatic, and made me think, that's what REALLY happens, we didn't see Carmella and the kids crying over him because you were him...,

But as I said Im very much in the minority, most folk felt cheated and that it was a cop out!!

The ending was genius but I felt it was jarring compared to what regular viewers expected. There were a few Godfather references that let you know what was about to happen, but most people probably only got the most obvious one. The writer got to pat himself on the back for a clever scene but it didn't give proper closure.

Mad Men came very close to doing that but I felt they got the balance just right. Not everything needs to be spelled out but the audience needs to feel satisfied that they know what happened, or at least feel that they have enough info to work it out.

If you want a shortened version (a film rather than a set of series), then we've got Goodfellas and Casino.

Cosa Nostra (the Sicilian version and origin of The Mafia). These guys all want to be your friends until the day somebody decides you're going to get whacked and you might end up in a dumpster. You might get made or you might get a bullet.

Happy days.

I'll never get tired of either of those films. Pesci is especially good in Casino. Sharon Stone was brilliant in it.

Casino & Goodfellas are just your 'run of the mill' mob movies. Good fun if you like that sort of thing but hardly groundbreaking. The Sopranos is in a league of it's own. It's a really special show. Each episode is like a study of human behaviour. Everyone should watch it!

I think you're over egging the cake there somewhat.

Besides, there is little point in having a pissing contest as to which is the best mobster/gangster programme.
