Would it be anywhere as long as this? Perhaps we don't sit around thinking too much about our roles as women, we just get on with it.

Yes I do believe it can be tough being a woman - just imagine having to give birth ouch! or having periods every month or being paid less for doing the same job as a man and then having to fight off men who come on to you in the work place ... Yes it must be hard to be a woman in this world of men.

Giving birth and periods I’ll give you but the pay gap thing for the same job is a total myth. It’s been illegal in this country for many years for any company to pay a women less than a man. If anyone ever has this take the company to court and retire rich.

Any perceived difference in earnings is down to life choices like giving birth and taking time out of professional life or choosing different career paths. There’s absolutely nothing stopping any women earning whatever she aims for.

and this attitude is why women still don't have true equality

it's fucking biology, why the hell should it affect your career

if a heterosexual couple decide to have children who gives birth isn't up for debate, so why should only one partner be penalised in the workplace?

Bollocks. We’ve already got equality in spades in the UK. Live in Saudi and you’d have a point.

Why not let the women go back to work and the man stay at home and look after the baby. Problem solved and fairly simple really. The man can then moan about being paid less over that period of time and make up the same inaccurate assumptions that it must be because of their gender and not the free choices they’ve made.

There really is nothing to stop any woman doing and earning whatever they want.

nobody mentioned who cares for the child once it is born :ooer:

the original quote said giving birth is a choice, well no there is no choice about who gives birth in the partnership

nice to see you've completely missed the point though :smilin:

There can always be gaps when people manipulate stats or don’t look at the whole picture. I can’t believe people still fall for the pay gap myth. It’s been debunked many many times. It’s also illegal in this country.

I really don't think that the Financial Times has an interest in manipulating the stats regarding equal pay in the UK. Nor do I think that the opinion piece in the American magazine you linked to counter's the FT's scholarship in any way.

Bad form on that front.

Avon and I were discussing gender roles and I was saying how damaging and discriminatiry they were to MEN and women, and used a quote to illustrate the point.

No Meg I read the post and the word oppressed jumped out at me and made me laugh.

Any confident intelligent and ambitious women can go out and do and earn whatever they like. There’s is nothing whatsoever stopping them.

Unfortunately there will always be a subsection of society who love to blame their failures in life or lack of success on some thing so they can play the victim. Oppressed my backside! :pmsl:

Airlines have huge gender pay gaps but mainly because the majority of pilots are men. I suspect these conspiracy folk will spin it that it’s because all these orrible men who seek to oppress women don’t allow them to become pilots or some other made up excuse.

It’s total bollocks of course and again down to personal career or life choices of the individual not some imaginary patriarchy that hates women. This victim culture some have is so draining.

gosh

pointing out that women are the ones to give birth and that it is just simple biology hasn't half triggered some people

and still nobody has answered why it is seen as equality that they may compromise their careers in doing so

Giving birth has been reduced to imaginary dragons. Still, makes a change from unicorns.

Tell Rollup what a gora is please Lady M :pmsl:

I'm not trying to catch you out LR, but didn't you tell us more than 50% of your lettings are to eastern Europeans?

Which seems a little unusual for a 'heavily Asian area' - I would have thought most tenants in a heavily Asian area would have been Asian.

I'm not saying the two can't mix, but wouldn't an area where most people living there are Eastern Europeans, be better described as a 'heavily Eastern European area'?

Or does your agency specialise in eastern Europeans, and your tenants are disproportionate to the demographic of the area?

Which kind of makes a mockery of the statement about being oppressed made by someone earlier .... I had to laugh when I read the word oppressed.

You dont think women around the world have been and still are oppressed?

Really rolly? I thought you a clued up guy :shake head:

Around the world sure. When you get super privileged women in the UK whining about sexism or oppression from decades past you know often they’ve got an agenda. Women and men have it great compared to less civilised countries.

I think Meg is some kind of activist or feminist or something.
