How about the "Separate but Equal" ruling of the Supreme Court that allowed Segregation of schools provided that the schools were equally as good, except they weren't Schools for White kids had smaller class sizes and were better resourced than the schools the Black Kids had to go to (a problem that still endures to today)

What it shows is how a working class man could afford to keep a family and buy a new build home. You wouldn't get that today with that kind of job. It also shows what society expected of a man. Get married, have children, buy a home. Mow the grass. It didn't show him years later dying of cancer because of his job, or his wife left without qualifications and working for pittance in the modern world. Or the grandchildren with obesity and ADHD and Trump voters.

Yes they could afford to pay the mortgage with just one wage and the wife could stay at home and raise the kids if she wanted.

The two go hand in hand, the White Flight to the Suburbs to enjoy the Utopia the OP suggests left behind the African Americans living in the Projects which throughout the 50's through to the 80's became dens of deprivation

Funnily the Projects were cleared to make way for new housing developments so the Suburban Folk could move back downtown, pushing the African Americans to the peripheries of town forcing them to take ever longer commutes to get to their places of work so the White folk could cycle into work
