Personally I'm managing and even quite enjoying this locked own thing.

Chatting with my neighbors and just learned he has over 2000 northern soul records and ran a a successful club in Manchester after the Twisted wheel shut in Manchester. I never would have imagined it!

Did he still dress in Northern Soul clothes? Some of those reunion clips are quite funny - the outfits definitely suit a younger body!

The Twisted Wheel ... how old is he does he remember Jimmy Savile's connection?
Is he called Jack or Ivor?

Rollup - did you go the Wigan Casino? It was a bit before my time and out of my area, but I've seen documentaries and it looked a great vibe to be a part of - fantastic music and dancing as well.

I did indeed the Wigan all nighters where speed was the drug of the day and the only speed available on the streets then was prescription stuff stolen from chemist and pharmaceutical warehouse break ins of which there were many.
100% pure BP amphetamine! By thelate 70's many of us had figured out .... the the word amphetamine gave away all the secrets need to knock it up ....Alpha .... Methyl .... Phene Ethyly .... Amine.
100% pure cocaine and opiates including morphine heroin and opium also hit the streets almost none stop through the 60's 70's 80's.
By the 80's heroin was the main drug of the land and no matter what security measures were put in at chemist shops large and small they would be plundered till eventually around 1982 chemists no longer knocked up their own mixtures and the generic stuff took over meaning the 100% days and burglaries were over.
That club scene died and for years Manchester had always had more clubs than any other city including London.
XTX arrived in kilo bags of powderas speed but was XTC (ecstacy) sex in a bag and the rebirth
of clubland Manchester came with Factory records and the Hacienda club .... any drug you fancied any amount you could afford and for the first time guns became common and any sense of innocence died.
This neighbour of Bells will probably know a lot of good stories .... get him to join here!

Wow! When we're all free he should get out there and do some northern soul nights - there's a shortage around. I haven't been to one for ages. :bawlin:

Try & catch this on iplayer if you haven't already, it really is a lovely story & great tracks...

Northern Soul is more than just music to Anthony Flavin - it’s a way of life. Anthony has grown up in care from the age of six. His great passions in life are music, fashion and films from the sixties and seventies, and his love for Northern Soul music tops them all. This heart-warming film follows Anthony in the run-up to his 18th birthday as he finds his place on Nottingham’s Northern Soul scene. With help from his keyworker Luke and a collection of Northern Soul friends, he is about to take his first steps as a DJ and towards an independent life. Has he mastered the decks in time to get this
discerning crowd on the dancefloor?

Yeah. So many people needing substances to have a good time. I can't imagine taking H and wanting to dance and socialise, I would prefer to sit and just feel the sensation at home safely and quietly.
Showing my age now! :gigglesnshit:
Drink is still waste of time. I at least understand the appeal of drugs, even long term use can be devastating as we know. But drink, getting aggressive, talking balls, feeling sick, eating junk, and the horrible dirty wiped out hangover. Oh, never again. I've been teetotal for about 6 years and never felt better :canny:
I know it's off topic but I have always wondered what is inherently illegal about taking drugs and why alcohol is legal when it causes hostility and aggression as Friday nights in A and E are testament to.

He wouldn't have to do backdrops or anything, he'd be the DJ. They talk a lot and don't really dance.
