Saw a strange thing on telly last night that made me double take and listen.

A woman was getting a violin fixed, said it belonged to her nan who had taken it to Auschwitz with her when she was inturred during the war.

Her story was, the nan had been a virtuoso violinist in the Berlin Philharmonic but being Jewish was rounded up and ended up in Auschwitz after a couple of other camps.

The woman said her nan had survived because of this violin and the fact she was a great player, she was put in the Auschwitz inturnees orchestra and remained in it until the war ended, she died in 1947.

Auschwitz and a prisoners orchestra .... does that ring right?

Not surprising to see the Scandinavian countries on there. My understanding is they look after their citizens well (social welfare). They pay higher taxes in order to be able to do it, but if the end result is better quality of life (being happy), it’s money well spent.

Way way too fussy and faffy for my taste I'd rather have the diamonds they're encrusted with in jewellery, rather than on a pair of shoes.
