It's to protect the misuse or mishandling of your personal information (which they expanded to include IP's). If people are guest posting to stir up shit then just IP ban them instead of approving their posts and then posting their IP's.

Meh, there's other pointless stuff but malicious compliance is a thing that I probably won't use. I can spot passive aggressiveness a mile away and I keep a diary...
