Can't get my laptop to upload music CDs .

UFOs, new tech, it all goes in here. Have you tried switching it off and back on ?

Can't get my laptop to upload music CDs .

Postby Guest » Wed Feb 25, 2015 1:43 am

So I finally sorted out all my CDs into piles for the charity shop and a pile for copying to my laptop (yes I know , but better late than never).
Anyway , the first few uploads went fine the other day , no probs at all , but tonight I keep getting a message saying "ERROR" beside each track .Tried with a few different (proper quality, not knock-offs) CDs, so it's not a one off .
I'm not techie, so bear with me here and don't laugh........could it be whatever plays the CD (driver?) banjaxed ? Can I replace that ? Or is there something I'm missing to do ?

Any help appreciated regarding what I need to fix , and please be gentle and speak proper English , not tech-speak , I am totally a Luddite regarding this stuff . :doomed:

Hi Frosty . The lappy is a Dell Inspiron (3 yrs old) .

Operating system ? Windows 7 .

Ripping software ? Not sure what you mean  . Oh wait , a pop up window appears sometimes with "ROXIO" in it when I put the disc in . Is that it ? And I use windows media player for listening etc .

Feck , I just googled a list of ripping software and ROXIO doesn't get a mention :bawlin: .

I've tried using Firefox (which is rapidly becoming shite to use.) Also tried on Explorer , and Chrome .....if that matters .

start search device manager click icon is there any yellow question marks??

if there is one next to dvd drive either its fucked or the drivers are corrupt
pres the plus signand right click the dvd drive press uninstall and reboot
that will make the dvd drive reinstall with windows drivers
if no yellow question mark
try ripping using windows media player

OK. So ....no question mark in there. But I right clicked on the 'DVD/CD-rom drives' & got "scan for hardware changes" ,so I clicked on that.
After a minute or so of the scanning I got another pop up window saying the "device software driver was NOT successfully installed"

Hmm, so I'll look at that youtube video later tonight and see how I get on there .

Thanks for the help Frosty .............. :bloodyputer:

Back again .
Never really noticed the sound on my laptop as I rarely use it (sound) that much and mostly just keep it mute .
BUT , been trying to watch some DVDs I came across and the sound is absolute shite .Even at it's highest settings . Yes I've gone in the mixer/sound icon thingy to try to joosh it up , but no difference at all .It used to be great , but seems to have faded .
I read that it's possible to enhance your laptop sound by downloading summat or other , but I'm wary of messing around in case I bugger up this laptop so thought I'd ask for help on here .Again.

My lappy is a Dell Inspiron (3 or 4 yrs old) and my system is windows 7 .
Oh and I use Firefox 99.9% of the time (if that matters) . But an older version , as the newer ones disagreed with me so I reverted to an older version .

Any tips or tricks on how to put tunes from a CD onto your (Android) phone? Amazon hasn't given me download links yet.
