I occasionally visit Mcdonalds with my grand kids and have never tipped there.
Is that the norm or have I committed a faux pas?
Where is it ok to not tip?

The first faux pas was entering a McDonalds, (or a Burger King/Wendy's etc).
The second, and a real doozy, was taking your grandkids in one of those places.
Were I to even slow my pace while walking past one of those carseys, my grandkids
would rightly tell their parents, and I would anticipate a visit from child protection
services, so if you do make the mistake of going in one of those places, do NOT tip, in
fact the only sentence that should ever contain the words 'tip' and 'McDonalds' would
be, "Here's a tip, don't ever go into a McDonalds."
Another tip is, take them to Zizzi's, or Pizza Express, the food is almost always good
there, the service too, so tip away, they deserve it.

I can't fault your response Frank, however pester power comes into play and mega sulk comes into play here.
Left to my own devices I just view the Golden "M" as a public toilet substitute whilst in town.

Fair enough luddite, I can't fault your reply either, pester power doesn't come into the picture with these particular grandkids, my beautiful, sophisticated, daughter-in-law is a "lady who lunches."
How my knock down, drag out, but undeniably good looking son snagged her is a mystery.
Their children have been oh so gently brainwashed into associating Maccy Ds and KFC with chavdom, and/or a deprived upbringing.
I have to put my hands up here, and admit using McDonalds in the US, for their free wi-fi.
