I also called them to their pen when a child confided he had let them out and they all came and got back in. I was shaking their bowl with some grain in but they still seemed to get what was going on. Unfortunately one day they were all killed by foxes. They were allowed to roam most of the time so had freedom at the squatted plot of land. Sadly it led to foxes getting them. I still eat chicken though and buy eggs but only free range. I think battery / factory farms should be banned.
