A private detective whose company was paid up to £500,000 from publicly donated funds to find Madeleine McCann has been charged with fraud.

Kevin Halligen, 48, is wanted in America by the FBI for allegedly conning a law firm out of £1.3 million by claiming he could help free two men jailed in war-torn Africa. It is claimed he instead spent the money on a mansion.

Isn't it ironic that the people who put the most hours in on this and worked the hardest, the PJ, are the ones who are most villified? They all cancelled their leave and worked weekends etc. Reading the masses of evidence they accumulated and the 1000's of people they interviewed shows the sheer graft they put in. Now if Kate had just answered their questions and they had all went back for the reconstruction, the case could still be getting activately investigated by two proper police forces in Portugal and the UK instead of a bunch of money grabbing crooks.

Just saying.
