You can see the northern lights from Cumbria, Markey, here's a pic...

...just up the M6, cheaper than Iceland.

They are doing a flight from manchester in February. It’s £220pp, and I think you go up in the air, get fed, see the northern lights and land back in manchester 3 hours later.

It's much cheaper to drive to Cumbria from Manchester. :dunno:

With a much better view!
I’m not sure how anyone can justify that much

The last time you could see the Lights well over Britain was a couple of months ago...

Spectacular Northern Lights display over UK 'like being in Iceland'

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/11/08/spectacular-northern-lights-display-uk-like-iceland/

...some nice pics there.

And here's the UK Northern Lights forecast site - though tbh I can't make head nor tail of it.

I’ll have to keep an eye on the forecast. I don’t think I’d have too far to go. It’s just too god damn light polluted in manchester to see it, though supposedly it has been seen here.

Yes, somewhere around the Forest of Bowland should do it.

If you do figure out the forecast thing then don't forget to post it here so we can all take a look.

Are you on Facebook? There’s an aura watch uk group, and they tell you when you can see it. Much easier than the forecast thing!

No, for some reason I can't align with Facebook - I tried it but have now deleted my account.

Spot of skiing this weekend, Heading off tomorrow with the wife and kids. Roughly 3 hours drive and straight to the slopes.
Leave the wife and kids there, drive to the house and unload the car and the hit the slopes myself. Back home sunday night.

Yes great view of the city.
Only once have I been up there when it's cold and foggy and the fog is below you obliterating everything except the clear dark star filled night.
Perfect for sky watching.
I was involved with training security dogs up there a long time ago.
If you have Holcomb Hill though I think you have all you need for sky watching.

First day done on the slopes. Elk Mountain PA is not a bad place if you want to ski. Time to eat and relax the kids had a ball.

It sounds like it’s worth a trip just to see it. Suitable for dragging a dog up there?
