The Lion Hunt of Ashnurbanipal, 7th Cent BC. These are from a long frieze of Assyrian palace reliefs and are downstairs in the British Museum. Very much worth a look, just as much as the Elgin Marbles, and like those would probably have been painted in bright colours originally. They reminded me a bit of giant malted milk biscuits.

Here's a couple of Soutines – very lush paintings. He used to stink his building out with some of the rotting carcases he painted, which got the neighbours complaining.
