definitely whisky, fire water. or a cask ale if I want to relax and read the paper in the pub. oh,oh,oh port. forgot about mixing new years. never had prosseco before an Italian Friend introduced me to it. after a few pints in the pub and a short ten min walk a glass off wine later, it was the wine that did it. forgot the first rule, never mix the Grain with the Vine.

I've learnt how to make Espresso Martinis, frothy top & everything! Very pleased with myself. :yess:

What's everyone else's Christmas tipple likely to be this year? :northpole:

I very rarely use alcohol - but when I do a small measure of Tobermory suffices.

Is that whisky?

A friend got me onto Amaretto Sours recently, they're gorgeous!
Juice of half a lemon, 1 measure of Amaretto over crushed ice and a cherry.

Yes - the most delicate in flavour aficionados would assert - so not suitable for mixers.

I hardly ever drink alcohol. Can't get on with wine, beer is usually too cold, and spirits all taste the same to me. Don't mind the odd Pimms or warm lager though.

Very wise - alcohol does little to enhance health or life.

Like most things which are bad for you, but do you want to be here for a good time or a long time? This is the eternal question as the two are often mutually exclusive.

I'm told that alcohol helps break down inhibitions and therefore eases social and sexual discourse. Once you've learned to socialise and seduce without it then what use does it have? :dunno:

Most alcoholic drinks taste nice. One of my best friends drinks very little, but I don't judge him for it. Everybody has a mission statement for what they are going to do when they are alive. It'd be pretty boring if we were all the same, e.g. some people like to drink, some don't. The main problem I have with people that drink too much is when they become violent and abusive. I've always maintained that drink brings out the 'real you' in many people.

Many things taste nice but they don't have to poison you.

And it is a waste of life to rely on substance abuse to bring out the "real you". Any enlightened person strives to know themselves in the calmness of sobriety. Self-awareness is goal of course, not an inevitable destination.

Now you're getting philosophical. Frankly, I doubt the majority of people care and that includes those who don't drink.

As for life, it's meaningless in the scheme of things as you can't take any of it with you when you die. Existential nihilism essentially. Some people believe in an afterlife and/or re-incarnation, but I don't. Hang on a mo, there's already another thread about this.

ETA. Many things can poison you, even drinking too much water.

What the ignorant care about has little bearing on the journey the enlightened are compelled to pursue.

In life the quality of "being" is paramount to the aforementioned enlightened. Possession and accumulation is for primitives.

Water is essential for the maintenance of your life, alcohol is not.
