The new ( Reconditioned ) Train and Carriages being transported to Island Line Railway .

It is hoped that the trains will be operating by September , there was a minor problem that the new carriages are higher than the old ones , so the new carriages had to be pushed through Ryde Tunnel there were inchs to spare , it will be a question of holding ones breadth when the first train goes through the tunnel . :kinell:

Worst case scenario is the track bed may have to be lowered a bit again in order to meet track clearance/loading gauge requirements (potential flooding problems left aside). The new class 484's won't be running more than 45 mph, and they are quite short trains.

Another milestone in reopening the Dartmoor Line has been reached after Network Rail completed the purchase of the railway and Okehampton station.

The 16 mile stretch of railway – from Coleford Junction to the end of the line at Meldon Quarry – has been purchased by Network Rail from Aggregate Industries.

Devon County Council has also transferred ownership of the northern part of Okehampton station to Network Rail for a peppercorn fee of £1, enabling the station and platform that will serve passengers upon the resumption of regular passenger services, to become part of the rail network, although they will retain ownership of the southern side of the station and will maintain the footbridge to allow connectivity between the two sides of the station.

Network Rail’s acquisition of this ownership was formally marked this week with the symbolic handing over of keys to the station and the track, as plans for the line to reopen for the first time in nearly 50 years continue to gather pace.

Indeed Exeter - Okehampton - Tavistock - Bere Alston is high priority as a relief line for Exeter - Newton Abbot via Dawlish sea wall.

Hitachi Rail/Alstom have been awarded the contract for the HS2 rolling stock, 54 units so far on order.

East Midlands Railway are getting new bi-mode train sets.

Avanti West Coast are getting new bi-mode trains for the north Wales line, additional trains for the WCML and a full major refurb for the current Pendolino fleet (class 390).

Network Rail are supposed to be installing digital signalling/in-cab signalling initially from London Kings Cross - Peterborough. ERTMS/ETCS. This will allow the Hitachi AT300 type (Class 800, 801, 802) to run at 140mph (instead of 125mph) with minor modifications and class 390 Pendolinos.

Nice bump, I was thinking about this thread earlier.

A new overnight train route has just been announced, making it easier to get to Berlin and other European cities from London.

Launching in May 2023, the European Sleeper service runs Brussels-Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam-Hanover-Berlin. With Eurostar offering direct trains between London and Brussels-Midi, this means you can get from St Pancras to Berlin with just one change.

The overnight service leaves Brussels-Midi at 7.22pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, arriving at Berlin at 6.48am the next morning — so the Friday evening service sounds ideal for kickstarting a weekend away. Eurostar currently runs around nine direct services between London and Brussels-Midi a day, with that journey taking just over two hours. So... we're thinking leave London mid-morning, spend an afternoon in Brussels, then sleep off all those Delirium Tremens you've drunk, on the onward sleeper to Berlin.

Return journeys from Berlin to Brussels depart on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, arriving in Brussels at 9.27am the next morning.

It's a usual development, but IMO much more could be done.

They're supposed to be putting a station into Marsh Barton, Exeter. If there's an early service from Torre then I'm getting a pushbike
