I was just thinking it is a conspiracy. They reduced the height for vehicles to pass through deliberately! An entirely accurate theory! But not conspiracy! It happens so often the only way to maintain the bridges integrity is to introduce a reinforced buffer. Maybe the trucks with pay loads should permit the piston to compresses when the truck is in motion? Must have cost a fortune to repair the bridges? And how the the roof of the of vans are torn off is impressive. Probably a few delivery drivers who have a monthly or annual route have been caught out by the buffers?

There's one bridge that gets hit again and again.
You'd think the insurance companies would be demanding the road be lowered.

They make bridges far too low these days.

Anyone behind who has to slam their brakes on is too close to the lorry in front of them.

This one?

Here's the regs that cover bridges: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... otocol.pdf

But that didn't stop some dickhead from shutting down the only line between Cornwall and the rest of the country a couple of weeks ago :shake head:

Network Rail will be working with Plymouth City Council to review rail bridges after a lorry got stuck under a bridge in the city.

The signage and surrounding vegetation will be inspected to help drivers be clear on the size of the bridges.

The investigation is to prevent further disruptions to rail journeys, after the Tesco lorry crash on Ashford Crescent on 29 August.

The lorry was stuck for three days and multiple train journeys were cancelled.

One suggestion is putting an RSJ height barrier slightly lower than the bridge and a few metres before it to stop further fuckery.

The highest part of the truck got through :ooer: Then the road goes up steeply... too steeply.
Again the road needs rearranging.

Which means all sorts of bollocks. That land has held a rail bridge as well as buildings and a road since Victorian times. Digging down would potentially undermine essential foundations and has probably been looked into several times since the war and declared a no go. This is the only rail link between the county and the country, the architecture around it has to get hostile.

Supporting and strengthening foundations with steel and concrete isn't usually a problem.
Yep it means all sorts of bollox including time money and effort or just moan about it till it happens again and again.
Maybe the road could be rerouted?
I doubt the water works gas electric whatever is under there wouldn't be to much of a problem either.
Not doing anything seems to be a common approach though... the easy short term approach.

That bridge and road has been there a hundred and fifty years and maybe more and still they haven't done fuck all to bring it into the modern world.
Where I live is all hills mountains valleys cliffs rivers we get bridges hit and bridges replaced we get railways lines washed into the sea buried under landslides it's never ending but things are done things are repaired often altered same in Scotland but England seem to have sunk into a mentality of no can do.
There's a road not far from me that suffered landslides and flooding.
There was no way to reroute the road they'd tried holding back the mountain but it didn't work so they cut a fucking big chunk of it away and made it into a gentle slope put massive drains and ditches on the low side of the road problem solved.
To much tutting and head shaking these days.
To much we can't maintain the infrastructure but yes we can.
If we can't if we don't then it all just falls apart and we seem to have a government who have no plans no ideas about very much at all so shit is crumbling and the public think it's the only way can't be avoided ramble over.

Look to the right in the road, utilities are obviously there. This isn't a busy road by any means and you can get a Transit with ladders through it. This is bad driving and nothing less, it shows a total lack of awareness by a former Tesco driver (gross misconduct for anything blameable let alone something costing millions). We're short of drivers, where will he crash next? :dunno:
