Police Scotland are continuing to dig up the garden of a vulnerable woman who hasn't been seen by anyone but her carers for 17 years.

Margaret Fleming is 36 years old and hasn't been seen in public since 1999 at a family gathering.

A woman who is friends with Margaret's carers and often visited their house and even went on holiday with them, has never met Margaret.

Edward Cairney and April Jones had been caring for Margaret since her dad died.

Terrible. I've read other stories about so called carers abusing vulnerable people and have experienced it personally. There was one elderly woman who was force fed talc while in bed at home. Her family put a camera in her room but the carers still got off lightly.

I think they only reported her missing because of new benefit rules and going from DLA to PIP and the face to face interviews that go with it. I agree they've probably been taking her money and getting other money from the DWP for years.

I agree. They will have killed her many years ago and have been taking money meant for her plus the money carers get. What a pair of callous bastard scumbags. I hope they don't get away with it. They can't get a whole life tariff, but they could get sentences that would make being released highly unlikely.

Angus Sinclair is one case that springs to mind, he'll be a 106 before he can apply for parole.

Eddie Cairney and Avril Jones have been charged with Margaret Fleming's murder.

Eddie Cairney and Avril Jones have appeared in court charged with murder, fraud, abduction and assault.

It's alleged the two of them murdered Margaret in January 2000.

The court heard that between November 1997 and January 2000, they kept Margaret tied up in a bedroom and collected her benefits money.

It's believed they murdered Margaret by inflicting blunt force injury on her by means currently unknown.

The Sheriff denied the pair bail.

Of course having a murder trial without a body can be difficult, but I can think of at least two cases when people have been convicted of murder in Scotland without a body.

Nat Fraser was convicted of killing his wife Arlene and Andrew Hunter was convicted of killing his wife Linda.

Andrew Hunter even went on Crimewatch, asking the public for help in finding his missing wife.
