Any Car Mechanics or Car experts around. ?

Postby jp761 » Wed Jan 25, 2017 10:07 pm

So is anyone on here a car mechanic or just generally very good with cars. ? What are the causes of a car battery draining right down overnight even after a jump start the battery is still drained and dead the next day! The battery is quite new by the way. I've read a little about parasitic drain.

The car has been checked on diagnostics equipment the garage says it's a motherboard and instrument panel issue.

That's the thing the battery is fine according to them they say a motherboard/electrical fault is causing the draining problem as I said.

Take it to a battery place or get another car.

I'm not joking. Modern Volvos will lock the car with they keys inside and the computers drain the battery quickly.

Get a car that doesn't do that because things go wrong.

It's not a Volvo but I do know they don't make cars like they used to haha Too much electronics are the problem.

Come to think of not much is made like it used to be.

I would have suggested the Alternator but presumably the diagnostic machine would be able to differentiate between that and a "motherboard or instrument panel" fault.

Honestly, I'm a bit dubious of that diagnosis. I can't really see how the ECU or the instrument panel, themselves, would use enough leccy to drain a battery overnight, unless it's keeping something else running even after the ignition is off.

I refer you to my Volvo anecdote. Up to seven computers activate when the keys are in the ignition without turning anything on.
