Windows 10

UFOs, new tech, it all goes in here. Have you tried switching it off and back on ?

Even the improved Edge browser seems acceptable - so far.

Well I've been using Windows 10 for about three months now.
Because it came pre-installed with new pc ... pretty good and fast too.
But Edge does not work for me.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why but if I use it it might be okay for a few seconds or half an hour but it crashes the system.
Screen goes black sometimes comes back on but more often than not doesn't so my simple solution is .... don't use it.

Just thought I'd give edge a go again and see if time has healed it through updates etc but nope.
Lasted three or four minutes then the pc crashed.
This is the only problem I've had with Windows 10 which on the whole I'm quite impressed with I have to admit.
Anyone else have this problem or know of it?
It's not important as I say I just avoid using it I'm just curious.

Speaking of which, I get along just fine with Waterfox. 4 tabs open, a few add-ons, a few extensions and it's chugging away using 390.MB
I've found that having 8Gig RAM does help though. Total memory in use= 23%, so not exactly frugal.

Yes, I've changed my view of Edge, it's a bit iffy - I'm back with Firefox and Chrome.

I still like Windows 10 though - best iteration since XP.

I've just gone back to Windows 8.1. I've had terrible connection problems with W 10, and tried lots of patches etc, and nothing seemed to fix it. It's now working perfectly.

By the way can anyone advise how to get my files back from Asus web storage? Pretty please :wubwub:

Thank you for this BFF. I looked high and low on the web storage page itself, and there was nothing. :cuppaT:

Until recently I had an Asus machine with the same problem on Win 10 - sounds like a driver issue. :dunno:

War of words between the computer and car industries. :yikes:

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX) : Bill Gates compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If Ford had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, Ford issued a press release stating:

If Ford had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash -twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads..

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask, "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Ooooh I say. Ford 10, Windows 1 ... is the latest score by my reckoning.
I cannot match the wonderful sarcasm ... but I'll add two of my own personal gripes to that list :

11. Being pestered with the question ''would you like to share'' every 2 minutes. (Well yes of course. I just luv sharing all my personal details with eager beaver hackers on the other side of the world, how did you guess? )

12. Being informed at the car show room that the 1yr warantee on your brand new vehicle only covers hardware malfunction. If you are unlucky enough to encounter any software problems, spin on it!

The 'puter & car industries clearly don't meet each other's expectations. Let em sort this war of words out among themselves.
