A NEWLY-elected Scottish Labour MP travelled to his new job at Westminster wearing his old Parcelforce work shirt.

Former postie Hugh Gaffney, Labour MP for Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill, posed in the shirt on the train down and outside Big Ben.

It’s thought the 53-year-old even wore the shirt during a visit to the Commons, although it was hidden under a suit jacket and tie.

This entry was on the BBC website in the 'Have Your Say' section. Only 1 other comment has been voted down more than this one.

1979 -Callaghan 269 seats, he admitted defeat & resigned.

1992 - Kinnock 271 seats, he admitted defeat & resigned.

2017 - Corbyn 262 seats, claims victory and orders the winner to resign.

He lost seats, and the swing in votes towards Tories was 8% (at the time the biggest since 1945)

Corbyn gained seats and had a swing in his favour of 9.6% (biggest since 1945, bigger than Thatcher in 79 and Blair in 97)

Kinnock was fighting his second election and was ahead in the polls . The Tories still came out with a majority

Corbyn fought his first election, less than a year after the labour right forced another leadership contest, was miles behind in the polls, expected to be annihilated... and yet he gain seats, massively increased the labour vote and the Tories lost their majority

The Kinnock comparison is quite apt.

Both inherited a Labour party on its legs, rife with divisions.

But whereas Kinnock's limp dick centrism didn't inspire much change, it took him 9 years and 2 elections to make Labour competitive again, Corbyn has done the same in less than 2 years

Far-right revisionism.

A good move from May as a victory is all but guaranteed. A show of strength leading up to a hard Brexit.
