Is it the psychopathy part that makes them driven or is that the part that makes them commit the crime?
I agree being cold can be an advantage in certain areas of life but to be so cold that you would murder another is the part that could be 'tweaked', surely?
Lamby, you have written them off but you don't know about how successfully some have been 'tweaked' to be less murderous because there's no statistical evidence for it. ie. A crime was not committed.

It's not that I've written them off. I'm just telling you that you can't turn a psychopath into a non-psychopath. Remember, 'psychopath' is not a medical diagnosis. The term refers to a specific collection of personality traits. Someone who exhibits psychopathic behaviour could most likely be diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder, which is kind of, but not quite, the 'official' medical diagnosis for psychopathy. A diagnosis of ASPD requires a history of antisocial and/or criminal behaviour. Where I agree is that behaviour can possibly be altered via therapy, but that's not the same as turning someone into a non-psychopath.

By the way, here's an interesting little test for people to take. It's called the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale, and is considered a fairly decent measurement of someone's psychopathic traits: https://openpsychometrics.org/tests/LSRP.php

I wonder if certain societies have more criminal psychopaths than others. I imagine you wouldn't get many in a monastery.
Does a competitive society produce more criminal psychospaths?

I know.

Over one in a hundred people is a psychopath and very few become killers - although they are superficially charming, 'popular', highly manipulative and often subtly destroy people/rivals in order to get get to the top of their chosen profession.

If they all became murderers the world would be in an even bigger mess than it already is.

It's remarkable how easily they pull the wool over people's eyes.

Isn't manipulation a normal human trait we learn from birth? A baby crying and getting its reward of milk has learnt crying gets you what you want. An adult version would be someone who manipulates others by playing the victim.

Is that a little dig at me LM?

If so why?

I have never played the victim just defended myself against an army of anonymous trolls.

Oh and I was banned for nothing on DS - the double standards are a joke.

Want to meet an online psychopath?

Try the bloke booted from WW as a classic example.

For 25 years he's had people trying to mould him into a decent human being, they've failed, he's failed. This piece of trash should be behind bars permanently. How many chances, how much more in the way of resources, how much more time is to be spent on this vile specimen?

Lock him up and let him fester in his own depravity.

Exactly. How many more innocent children are to suffer whilst the lefty liberals pursue their pet project. Downloading child porn is not victimless.

Damn right it's not victimless, supply and demand. He'll no doubt be given 2-3 years again, assessed not a threat yet again and slid back into Society, again. Rehabilitation at its finest.

Interested in views regarding the anonymity rights of these murderers. In light of Venables' recent violation do you think he should still have the right of anonymity?

Personally I feel he should have lost that blanket the moment his arse was hauled back into jail in 2010.

For what purpose? Identifying him puts him at risk, and no matter what he did he has the right not to be harmed or killed for it. There are loads of mad people around who would behave as vigilantes, even though it was nothing to do with them. They would go to prison themselves if they did anything but they don't seem to think of that.

People speculate all the time as to who he is, and others have been wrongly identified, but identifying anyone as Jon Venables is contempt of court which could result in a prosecution - quite rightly.
