UN votes 128-9 to declare America's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital 'null and void' - as Britain jeopardises its special relationship with US by voting AGAINST Trump

UN voted 128-9 in favour of a resolution declaring Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Isreal 'void'
The UK was among those supporting the non-binding measure, putting strain on the 'special relationship'
Guatemala, Honduras, Togo, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and the Marshall Islands joined the US and Israel in opposing the motion, with 35 abstentions and a further 21 countries absent
Donald Trump said he would be 'watching' who voted against him and threatened to withdraw aid payments

Good. It was only ever going to cause trouble and meant no solution would be possible.

Trump Threatens To Cut Foreign Financial Aid Over Upcoming UN Jerusalem Vote

As the United Nations general assembly is set to hold a rare emergency session on Thursday to consider a resolution condemning President Trump's recent controversial move to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, American Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley is lashing out, telling member countries that "the US will be taking names".

She posted the warning in a Tuesday tweet after Monday's UN vote, which pitted the United States against all other members of the UN Security Council in a 14 to 1 decision with the US as the lone veto blocking the resolution. Haley was visibly furious over the resolution, calling it an "insult" while saying the US won’t be told where it can put its embassy. Though blocked at the security council, the Palestinians moved to put the resolution before the UN's General Assembly, where the US is not able to block it - a vote scheduled for Thursday.

Our Congress voted over 20 years ago. It has been the law for quite some time.

The evening before his speech, the Congress of the United States passed a law echoing Rabin’s assertions about the city. Spurred by the desire to act before Rabin’s visit, the House and Senate passed a bill called the “Jerusalem Embassy Act,” which formally recognized the city as the country’s capital and called for the U.S. Embassy in Israel to be moved there from Tel Aviv by 1999. Support for the bill was overwhelming. It passed the Senate by a 93 to 5 vote, with four Republicans and one Democrat voting no. It passed the House 374 to 37, with 153 Democrats joining most of the new Republican majority that had swept into power in 1994.

The bill became law after Clinton declined to sign it for a 10-day period while Congress was in session. He, George W. Bush and Barack Obama all postponed the embassy move every six months for each of the 22 years since the law was enacted.

And to be honest, I have virtually no use for Trump, however I have less for the UN. We should kick them out of NY, and keep the money we use to fund them. They are a corrupt, useless organization.

Don't you owe the UN over $2bn (not you personally) - or is that paid now?

A fair criticism.

In your tiny mind yes.
Out in the big wide world it's called stating a fact.
Seems facts are becoming as risky as criticism.

But its not a fact. Otherwise what excuse do they have for the relentless support for Saudi Arabia? the far right would say its due to the Islamic world takeover controlling the west. Hardly.

The reason USA show so much support for Israel is because they serve a certain function for American Imperialist interests. The same way America shows so much support for Taiwan, Columbia, and a host of other smaller countries around the world - handy allies that allow them to interfere in regional politics (Columbia allows them to fuck with the left wing Governments in South America, Taiwan/South Korea/Japan lets them fuck with China and East Asia in general).

Look at how they are willing to start nuclear war protecting places like Poland. Its not because they have a large number of polish descendants as citizens, its purely to fuck with Russia.

I agree with that but Jews in positions of power keep America online especially when Israel starts becoming a liability.
Saudi Arabia have some very strong ties and agreements with Israel.
The right wing Christians (like Maddog ad Tom) in America also make sure America support Israel for religious reasons.
Religious reasons that make little sense.

Not quite, however there are more supporters of Christian Zionism in America than there are Jews in the world.

Christian Zionism is a belief, preeminently but not exclusively among White Christian Evangelicals, that the return of Jews to the Holy Land will bring about the 'End times' and 'The Rapture' when they will all be taken to heaven. Evangelicals make up about 26% of the US population, that's greater than Catholics at 22%, which is somewhere near 90 million people slightly over 60% of whom believe in Christian Zionism - so that's over 50 million Christian Zionists in America as opposed to well under 16 million Jews worldwide.

Just to drive home the irony only just over half the world's Jews think the State of Israel is good idea and many who support Israel oppose the occupation of the West Bank and the Apartheid policies pursued by the current Israeli government.

The greatest irony is that Christian Zionism sees the extermination of Jews, in a Holy War against Islam, as a necessary first step to The Rapture
