The Price Of Diesel Road Fuel

Postby Major » Sat Dec 23, 2017 6:51 pm

Major supermarket where I live 122.90p per litre

Major supermarket in Coventry where I had to go today, I filled up car for 116.90 per litre, 6p per litre cheaper.
Most supermarkets in Coventry arre lower prices for diesel.

I will shop around in future instead of being loyal to one station.

How much is diesel road fuel nearest to the?

It's best to shop around, starbold - prices vary considerably.

Eighteen quid for twenty litres of cooking oil at Macro. Mix it 50/50 with diesel during the winter but it's ok at 1/4 diesel for the rest of the year

I've addressed your name thing elsewhere - please confine yourself to the thread subject, no trolling in the Snug.

Everyone can see where the cheapest diesel is by using the site I posted - https://www.petrolprices.com/ - it's the modern way, starbold, no real need for surveys.

I have heard of this but dare not do it as the car is under warranty.

I have been offered red diesel but too scared to that as well.

Pink will only be a problem if you get dipped by an HMRC mobile unit, it's regular derv with a colour additive. I've been pulled before when running on veg oil with no issue, apparently there's a massive amount that you have to use before you have to pay tax on it.

Search the specs on your vehicle, you should be able to use cheaper bio-diesel anyway.

Don't use red.
It's normal diesel coloured to identify it's tax band.
It's cheap for land use .... tractors and other heavy machinery.
If you get a random tug by Customs and Excise which happens quite a lot around these parts you can forfeit the vehicle for your crime.

You do know if you get caught doing that you're nicked, don't you?

The ministry don't just do roadside checks for vehicle road worthiness, they also dip tanks looking for red diesel or substitute fuels that are not registered. They take doing the taxman out of his fuel duty very seriously these days.

Just saw the other posts.

I think you'll find that any vehicle not registered for dual fuel or bio fuel is illegal no matter how much you use. Which stands to reason, imagine if everyone with a diesel car used cooking oil or other substitutes to avoid the taxes, the loss of tax revenue to HMRC would be enormous.

On the red diesel thing, the dye they use is so powerful that even if you only use it once, it will stain the tank for life.

Before they started using used cooking oil as fuel as regular as they do now, I reckon I wasted several hours of my life over those few years, looking for the burger van.

dick strawbridge did a programme where he converted used chippy oil into bio-fuel. he paid the duty on it though. one of the most interesting programmes he's done.
