I think you'll find that any vehicle not registered for dual fuel or bio fuel is illegal no matter how much you use. Which stands to reason, imagine if everyone with a diesel car used cooking oil or other substitutes to avoid the taxes, the loss of tax revenue to HMRC would be enormous.
On the red diesel thing, the dye they use is so powerful that even if you only use it once, it will stain the tank for life.
