My old mate arrived late and said he had backed over their cat and killed it, twas true but we did not believe him at first

I think Major Stormee was happy because it was a black cat belonging to a Muslim.

Says "late from school/work" but doesn't specify whether Slasher's mate was late from either? Are you sure it's not about backing over cats? :dunno:
