Daffodils

Postby Major » Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:31 am

About 18 months ago I had workman installing mains water pipes to the boundary of a property, what a mess.

I went to an auction and gambled on 2 x 56 lbs of poor quality/softish daffodil bulbs.
I got them home and had a closer look, they were not as bad as described by the auctioneer, £4, a bargain really.

I left them at the road entrance to the property to put in when workmen had finished, the next thing I know is the workman had just scattered them around both sides of the gates roadside where they should have gone anyway but I would have placed them neater., I was concerned.

We kept said workman in tea & biskitz for two days, they did some extra work for me as well so I gave them a sparrow.

Anyway, the daffs are coming up fantastic, I am really pleased, just hope they are not blind.

There are quite a few varieties of Daffs, Poca, I luv them all, I have some mini ones in pots which I move around.

I am looking to get this density, not the length about 50 feet either side of the gates.

My missus loves them for some unaccountable reason - but as i said on another thread I most certainly do not. Cheap local authorities put daffs in every municipal spot - fortunately the more discerning places in Cumbria still have cultivated floral displays. :snooty:

I think they look really nice, refreshing.
Look at my photo and point out why you do not like them

As I’ve said, I much prefer cultivated floral displays like the better areas have ~ daffs thrown everywhere look cheap and just a little scruffy imv. :snooty:

My missus has just brought home yellow tulips - they look like genetically modified abominations - I think I prefer daffs.

Daffs are a welcome sight where I live as it means some colour is coming back into the scenery.
The back lanes and single track roads and hedgerows will be bursting with them soon but not yet.
There's the odd clump of snowdrops and nothing more.

Daffs and yellow tulips do not equal good taste - fortunately they've drooped to death and been thrown out (the tulips, not the missus). :snooty:
