Move bank then. I requested not to have it on mine and it was no problem. I also found out that contactless payments aren't as quick, therefore meaning you may think you have more funds than you do, which may lead to a charge for overdrawing money. No wonder they want you to have one!

I requested not to have it on mine as well without any fuss. I didn’t like the idea that if I lost my card someone could use it (albeit for small-ish purchases) and I’d be none the wiser.

I also prefer using cash for tips for taxis and meals. Like someone said, at least you know the person you intended to give it to has received it.

I am cashless now.

I am allowed £1 per week pocket money, every week though, £2 at Chrismas.

The misgovernment can tell a lot from our banks.

They nobbled me 20 odd years ago on income tax, I had a row with them for 2 years and they dropped their investigation
A couple of years later they had another go at me and it is still ongoing, my tip is to keep very little in the regular banks in this country and buy gold to melt down eventually.
You cannot book certain things with cash

They want us to be cashless so they can control us more, they know too much now and have been chipping away for years.

Ir all started when nearly everyone had salaries/wages paid into a bamk.

Booking things.... you’re right there, Major. Holidays, flights, hotels, concert tickets, etc. There’s an obvious reason why they do this and in many ways it allow us more opportunities. I hope we always have both.

Why would you do that given we have a central bank and we have the oldest fiat currency in existence in the UK?

It's unlikely to change anytime soon so hoarding gold isn't that great a strategy.

Putting my hand up - I SELDOM have cash on me, I use my card. Even the pub will let you pay by card these days! The only time I might have cash on me is if my son has just paid me his dig money. Even that is short-lived, as I put it in the bank.

I went into a shop today to buy my son some candy, I mainly use cards nowadays but carry a minimum of $500 for if I buy the guys I employ lunch/ tipping doormen or other reasons where only cash will do. Any way the candy came to $10 and the guy wouldn't or couldn't take a card, I asked could I use my phone. He looked as if I'd just pointed a gun at his head.
I search my wallet but it only has $100/$50 bills, He won't accept one. Come the end My ten year old pulls out $20 of his own money and buys the candy himself telling me I owe him lol

Yes here in some stores it can be stopped if you haven't spent enough to validate using it. I just ask for Cashback and it goes through that way. I believe small business incur a handling/process fee of some sort, making it hard for them to accept less than say, $30.
