Not in my experience.
Once referred I can phone the secretary have a chat and arrange an appointent and I'm not talking private.
It might be a recent change.

You are still correct. It is recommended by the British Medical Association that you get a referral by a GP to see a prevalent specialist but it is not essential. Also a GP does not have to act on the advice given by a specialist

Sorry to drag up a old thread, but some really good advice in it.

I just wish I'd read it a couple of weeks ago when I had a chesty cough and couldn't get rid of it. I've always had problems with my chest since I was a child, getting bronchitis quite regularly and even having pleurisy a couple of times.

I had a inhaler prescribed for me a few years ago and never bothered to get a repeat prescription for it, I have to see my G P in a couple of weeks regarding a MRI referral, I'll mention it at the appointment. But will definitely try the steaming next time it happens, the bonus being it gives my pores a deep clean!

I had the flu jab in November last year and strangely this year I've had a bad couple of colds, it's the third year I've had the jab and the first time it hasn't worked that well, it's usually my husband who gets the bad colds after having the jab, he has to have it because he's T2 diabetic.

Will definitely try some of the suggestions though.

Catching colds has nothing to do with the flu Cat.
I'm T2 and I don't have to do anything.
Defid all the NHS advice and am in total control of the T2 to a degree far beyond those that take the official advice.
I have never had and never will have a flu jab as I see it as one of the biggest cons going.
The highest results are 11% but many scientists put it as low as 6% effective.
It's questioned how they can come to any reliable figure.
Many say it doesn't work at all.

You can't possibly know that.
I might as well say not having the flu jab worked for me.
Each year is an untried untested experiment.
