If you earnt on average £25,000 a year for 40 years, you’d have paid over £2 million in income tax alone.

how in fuck does earning £1m over 40 years mean paying over £2m in taxes?

Shit, I’m multitasking and miscalculated :brickwall:

It's something all people should do, unless you've got all your wage slips or P60's from the year dot it won't be easy, but take a five year period and go from that. Adjust when you were earning more or less money, the rate of tax. Then start on the real stuff.

How many times you moved house and paid tax, how much fuel you've put in cars and paid tax, how much VAT you paid over the years, tax on insurance tax on drinking and smoking perhaps, thats just the ones that spring off the top of my head, you are taxed until you squeak you just don't hear it anymore.

if you had already paid millions in taxes 30 years ago, you've been doing some heavyweight spending.

You’re not exactly alone though.

Why, after having contributed so much, do you have more ire towards immigrants (who also pay their taxes) than towards those who are rich enough but dodge taxes/ have offshore accounts etc?

he still hasn't paid millions, he's talking shit & exaggerating again.

I probably paid for the very bags you are wearing on your head at this moment.

Hurray!! Paper Boy's actually made a useful contribution to society :hap: :more beer:

So even immigrants are paying a substantial amount of tax? That's interesting.

If you knew how the real immigrant conducted his everyday life, you'd die of shock.

i was using lady m's fingers to count on. i should have said 10 years ago like you did earlier - that would put you as paying taxes for approx 30 years then.

you said it was millions 10 years ago. i'm calculating that meant you'd paid taxes in whatever form for 30 years by that date.

millions means at least £2 million.

£2m/30 years = £66,667 per year. In taxes.

heavyweight spending.

Ok it was if I remember rightly about 1.2 million I estimated about 10 years ago it must be a lot more now.

I won't go any further with my personal details but that figure above, I paid over twice that much in tax when I sold a business.

Firstly, I don't favour tax dodgers full stop. Secondly, I have no truck with immigrants who pay their way and pay their taxes. Unfortunately, contrary to popular belief amongst your lot, most immigrants don't contribute to our economy. Some do, the higher paid professionals do, they are not in the majority.

I don't know how many more times I have to explain it but paying £1 in tax and national insurance contributes nothing if you are taking £3 back out in tax credits and benefits, its simple arithmatic. Highly paid immigrants are also less likely to be a drain on the services most ordinary people use like say the NHS whereas those non contributing ones are likely to be more of a drain on our services than are ordinary people.

When next you hear someone say that immigrants contribute more to the economy than they take out, get them to break it down they can't or won't because they are all lumped together - if in fact they have any real figures at all.

To simplify it further you go out on night out team handed, your rich mate is paying for everything coz the rest of you are skint. When someone says look after that lot they are loaded - in reality, would that be true or false?

The jury's out...

Where were we?

If we are only talking about income tax then you would only have paid millions if you were in the £90,000 plus pay band for at least 40 years. But if you include NI and all the other taxes then average earnings of £50,000 plus would likely work out to paying millions in tax. Depending on how long you’ve worked consistently.

Usually doing that sort of thing would really get my juices flowing, but I think I’ll pass tonight.
Maybe tomorrow.
