I am not sure of the severity of it over there though so naturally I pose this question to the english on this board.
If I came over to england and said to a Muslim..."your mother wears army boots!!" could I possibly face jail time?

We have several nationalities on the forum and you only want the opinions of the English.

I guess he's asking about England because I think I saw a post not long ago saying he was making a trip here in the near future, so you can't blame him for wanting the heads up.
Maybe he's not going to Scotland which would be a big mistake in my opinion and Wales too, if you're taking a trip to the UK you have to see them both too, it would be a crime and waste of experience if you don't.

Maybe..
Tom is one of those people, who thinks Scotland and Wales are little villages in England and he'll come across us on his travels.
It's surprising common belief amongst American's.

Or on the grounds that it’s just a bit of a shit attempt at humour.

I don't know about the village thing but certainly many foreigners, not just Americans, think the UK or Great Britain is England. Tom is from California and I suppose coming from a state which is almost twice the size of the UK it might seem odd that it's split into 3 nations.

Yes I know, it's annoying.
Something else I find annoying..
Americans who claim to be Scottish, because their Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather was born here.
